Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

I don't like the scheduling of a Tuesday night game three days before a tournament, but that is what we have.
I hope we can get at least one of our forwards back as we seem to be getting tired late in games. Another body could help that.
After seeing the team on Friday, I can say that we have an abundance of energy guys with some real skills. Gilespie, Rodriquez and Fulton are going all out every time they are on the ice.
Still need a sniper we can count on for consistent scoring.
I love what I have seen from this team the last two weekends, and look for more of the same tonight.

Lets go red!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

We normally call this 'before Thanksgiving' game our "pre Thanksgiving Clunker" at the UNH board but tonight things this time around are going to be different!
'Cats are super hungry for a win and why not at the Engineers expense? :)

A few of us UNH faithful (fanatics) are travelling west to you guys from NH...looking forward to visiting the Houston Field house! Heard there is no real food concession so is there somewhere close by the rink?

Calling our two snipers TyK and Andrew Pots who are 1, 2 in the nation for scoring to blaze a trail past your GK and for the 'Cats to play a full 60 minutes!!!

Go 'Catttsssss!

Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

Ralph, I see you did it again. This time you got the location right, but the date wrong.
Thanksgiving is not in October (but I believe it is in Canada).
Let's hope for another Pre-Thanksgiving clunker for UNH as we could use a NC win.

I'll let the rest of my fellow RPI posters give Hockey Ref the best places to eat near the rink as they are better at it than I am.

It's quite difficult to score 100%. :)

BTW, I think that Thanksgiving is on 11/1 in Canada.

Dinosaur Barbecue, right down the hill in downtown, is always a good place to go. Brown's Brew Pub, although that is getting to be a place where the food is overpriced for what you get, that's a place that doesn't know if it wants to be fancy restaurant, or a brew pub. I don't drink, but I have been told that the beer is more than suitable. If you want near the rink, the Recovery Room is attached to the Hilton Garden Inn on Hoosick Street, right down the road from the Field House, but good luck trying to get out onto Hoosick St. after, especially at that time. You didn't say if you wanted GOOD food, if you do, don't go here. :D Maybe see you at the game.

The food in the Recovery Room isn't bad, or at least it is better than the pizza at the HFH. :)

Thanksgiving in Canada was October 12th (Our Columbus day). Thank you Ralph for screwing up the thread title as that is what we may need for a win tonight. if this works, this coming weekend remember is the year 2014!

Either that or the fact that UNH's bus broke down on the way to Troy yesterday. :)

As a creature of habit, not sure I like these mid week games. However, pretty much being the only game in town might garner us some extra attention so i hope our boys come out ready to play. That thought extends to each period as sometimes we seem to forget the puck has been dropped for several minutes in the second and third periods. We are playing a team with one really high scoring line and SA gets last change so I hope he has a plan on who should be out there on the ice against them. More than most other games, this one may well be determined by match ups.

Bubela has indeed returned.

So, apparently you guys are the reason we still have this forum...

Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

I think i see our old friend Hicks as an official. The only question that raises is as an official what?

Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

DrD,

You can click on it a couple of times to see the while image including the goalies. Hackett is apparently starting.

I've got to believe that our third line will go against UNH's top line. These guys have been playing great defense in all situations this year.

Well, seeing as how I'd rather eat a rubber tire than the pizza at the Field House, yes, the Recovery Room food isn't bad. Other than that, I think you're taste buds are out of whack.

Re: UNH @ RPI, Tuesday, 10/24/15

I am not so sure that is what i would do. This line that UNH puts out there reminds me of the old Oates line in 1984 and 1985. You cannot expect to completely neutralize them so you have to make sure no other line can hurt you. With their big line, you have to make them waste time coming up ice. You have to try to stop much of their rhythm deep in their own zone so they end up spending less time in your own zone. Perhaps the line you mention can do that. But, if the coach sees quickly that is not happening, he has to be ready to switch up the assignments and perhaps even sacrifice the offense of the MNM line and put them on the ice against them. With Miller having our highest face off percentage, at least you have a chance at winning some of those and gaining control of the puck for some time so that UNH does not have their best line with the puck as often. Just a thought, and probably not what will happen which is why I do not coach hockey and put faces together instead.
In 1985, 30+ schools tried to stop our top line and very few did. I saw three games that year where they seemed to be held down significantly. Once against SLU in HFH and surprisingly in the game against Union and of course providence did a pretty good job up in Detroit.

Can you imagine how it would be if the HFH actually served some decent food for the games? Maybe even get a food truck to drive up to one of the exits? And of course a pipe dream, but a litle cold beer served would certainly make even the losses more tolerable.
