Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Justin Fregona (DOB: 5-29-1997) is a junior at St. Andrew's College and teammate of 2014 commit Warren Foegele. He's a 5'8", 150 lbs, right-shot forward and the team's 3rd leading scorer with 24 goals and 28 assists in 40 games. He was drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the 2013 OHL Draft.
More details to come on the blog.

It's easy to dismiss a good hockey player playing at a lower level as excelling because of inferior competition. But it's hard not to come away impressed with Warren Foegele of St. Andrews College.

Passed over twice in the Ontario Hockey League draft, Foegele turned to the unlikely route of Ontario high school hockey. This late bloomer, who went from 5-8 as a minor midget to 6-1 today, is making some noise that will likely intensify as the draft nears.

His impressive offensive numbers speak for themselves. But there's more to his game than numbers. He plays a full 200-foot game, working as hard defensively as offensively. Foegele has excellent speed with his long, strong stride. He has excellent puck skills and soft hands. His lower body strength is exceptional and he gets very low when he has the puck on his stick, making him tough to check. His grit/compete level is very high, and while he doesn't run players over, he does finish checks hard.

Still, Red Line staff members are split on Foegele's eventual offensive upside. While we like that he isn't afraid to go to the middle of the ice in heavy traffic to create scoring chances, we're not fully convinced about his offensive instincts and natural hockey sense. Those are the facets of his game we'll be focusing on as his season winds down over the next month.

Watcher, forgive my naiveté but is this your prediction for UNH next season line wise, and, if so...where's TvR in this mix? Again...if I'm clueless about what this is, sorry! Thanks for the clarification..

Warren Foegele plays his final game of the season tomorrow at 1:30. He and his teammates on St. Andrew's College play Upper Canada College for the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association Championship. It can be seen live online at: http://www.sac.on.ca/live/index.aspx

2016 UNH recruit Justin Fregona also plays for St. Andrew's.

I don't think Knodel has declared what he will do at the end of this season. He turns 24 in June and is entering the prime years of his playing career. My guess is he'll want to pursue the life of a professional hockey player as soon as he can.

Sounds great on Nazarian!

Yea doesn't it! ESPN calls him "Mr. Hockey" (sound familiar)!! We have some excellent recruits in the pipeline...esp. offensively. It's been brought up on this board about the loss of offense with this year's grad. class; last night on the Coaches Show that came up...albeit briefly..kind of was mentioned then..NEXT. :) Big shoes to fill but gotta believe immediate impact with Foegele (sp) hopefully , Chanter, etc. And of course with Matt Willows returning along with Downing..quite a line to replace (Goumas, Willows, Sorkin). Love to see TvR/Pesce in the D. :) Anyhoo let's cross that bridge later, mk?? ;)

Speaking of TvR:
