Warren Foegele will be enrolling at UNH a year earlier than expected. He will be coming next fall. Foegele was ranked #62 among North American skaters on the NHL CSS Midterm Rankings. He is a left shot, power forward. Shane Eiserman, a left-shot power forward who's ranked #39 among NA skaters is also coming in the Fall of 2014.

Interesting. Have you heard a reason why or is it just because he and/ or the school think he's ready to go now? Regardless it sounds like there are some good recruits coming in next year.

I was wondering the same thing so I've interviewed Foegele via email. Look for a post today or tomorrow.

If I had to guess, I'd say that he has progressed faster than anyone anticipated. He wasn't on the NHL CSS lists earlier this season and now he's #62 among North American skaters in their midterm rankings. His Canadian prep school team, St. Andrew's College has made a few trips down to face top New England Prep schools and Shattuck St. Mary's and Foegele has played extremely well against the top competition. In addition, if he ends up being drafted in the 2nd to 5th rounds in the NHL Draft this June, there's is always the chance that he would leave college early. In that case, UNH would want him to come early to have him for more years.

So if the cause is Foegele's great play bumps him up to 2014, what is the effect?

Someone else presumably will get pushed back a year, no? Or did a forward UNH didn't expect to lose after this season approach the coaching staff and let them know they wouldn't be returning?

C-H-C, what's up with the (seemingly) late arrival for BVR? Unless I'm mistaken, he's a senior this year. The recruits page gives the impression they are planning AT LEAST two, and maybe THREE years of juniors before he shows up?

Thanks for catching that. Brendan will graduate from Christian Brothers Academy this spring. 2015 or 2016 are the tentative target dates for him to enroll at UNH.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

I've updated "UNH Recruits Update: Feb-10-2014" to include a description of Brendan van Riemsdyk's current plan for the future:

"Brendan was drafted by the Sioux City Musketeers in the 2013 USHL Draft last spring. He was the 51st overall pick. His current plan is to try out for the Sioux City squad at their training camp at the end of this upcoming summer. He hopes to play in the USHL for either one or two seasons and enroll at UNH in either the Fall of 2015 or 2016."
