Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Get bent. He came on here for weeks criticizing Umile and the UNH staff for their stupid decision to have him play a 2nd year in the USHL, saying how great of a player he was and that many top programs were all over the kid, and then guess what, nobody wants him this year and he's headed back to the USHL. It would be one thing if over the course of the season he'd admitted that just maybe Vecchione wasn't adjusting as quickly as he thought he would, but he!!, just last week or so, again, he was saying that he had almost TOO many schools to chose from, with many being FAR superior to UNH. So just dying to see what his excuse is now.
You dont excpect Mr. Vecchione, I mean Hokydad to admit he was wrong about something?

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Would be that much more impressive if he hadn't already turned 20 last winnter :D:D

Forget his age. It is impressive he has played well after a eh time in juniors. 20 or not at least he doesn't look like the total stiff he did month and a half ago... Some of us are just excited he might not suck!

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

I don't get it? The UNH staff asks Vecchione to play another year in the USHL and he de-commits as he thinks he's plenty ready to enter school in 2012. Hokydad, chimes in, stating that UNH made a BIG mistake in letting this very talented kid get away and that he was definitely ready to play D-1 in 2012. He also insists that many big time programs (far superior to UNH) are all over this kid, practically begging him to sign on the dotted line as he's THAT good. Vecchione goes on to have a subpar to average at best year in the USHL, but Hokydad still insists he has offers up the ying yang, from again, far superior schools to UNH. Now we find out that Vecchione, just like UNH had originally asked him to, is on his way back for another year in the USHL. Call me crazy, but if he's "that" good, is already 19, with a year in the USHL already under his belt, then why does nobody want him now?

Now Hokydad, I have stuck up for you on repeated occasions and generally respect your opinion, but man oh man, you sure dropped the ball on this one...

Hokydad and I went at it over this subject back in dec/jan and everyone thought I was nuts because I stated that Vechione did in fact need another year of juniors, his highschool numbers were inflated because the Catholic Conference isnt what it used to be and Vechione benefitted from playing with two more talented linemates in Collier and Fitzgerald. Hokydad stated that Vechione had many offers from schools better than UNH, but has decided not take any of them? Now he is nowhere to be found. Hokydad is Vechione's old coach. Why he would lie about the situation is beyond me. It was not UNH that made the mistake--it was Vechione. He had a 75% scholorship to a top tier program and now he is going to go back to juniors anyway and probably will not get a similiar scholorship to a program of UNH's caliber. Providence tried to walk him on--and he considered it from what I was told. 75% at UNH to potentially walking on at Providence. Vechione should have swallowed his pride and realized that the UNH coaching staff knows what they are doing in evaluating when a player is ready and when he is not. Cleary every other school believes Vechione is not ready for college, or else they would have offered him.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Hokydad--you and I also had a bet going. You told me Ryan Fitzgerald was going to be back at MC next season. I told you he was going to be in the EJHL---you called me a liar, made fun of me and told me i had zero connections. I can go back and find this if youd like. Well guess what--turns you were not only wrong about vecchione---but that too.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

C'mon---those were my last posts in months...and it turns out I was right...I promise as soon as Hokydad replies and explains where all these offers to Vecchione have gone and also admits how wrong he was on fitzgerald than I will get off the thread---but I gotta hear his reply...the guy just lies...and for whatever reason people just believe him and assume he knows what he talking about...

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Hokydad bashed me for a week straight and told me I had no clue what I was talking. "Dan" stated how UNH lost another "top recruit" and I came in and stated he was not a top recruit and getting MV off a 75% scholorship was a positive thing for the program---because he was not worth it. Clearly every other team would agree. Here is one of many lies hokydad told...

"You cant just shut your trap can you.

You are a fool with no clue. Had another offer this weekend for more money than UNH from a better program, which is not saying much as UNH is not top 75% in D 1 today. "

Hokydad should answer for posting BS like that and I for one am dying to hear his response.

I truly do wish MV good luck--but the kid made a mistake. He was dead set on coming into UNH next fall--and he WASNT ready. The coaching staff did him a favor and pushed him back, and it was a favor because he was not ready to play and would have sat in the stands vs. devloping in juniors. Instead of listening to the coaching staff and improving his game he insisted he was ready NEXT season and didnt need another year---clearly the kid made a mistake in evaluating his situation/talent level. If he had better financial offers from school supierior to UNH dont you think he would have accepted instead of going back to the USHL? I would just like Hokydad to admit he was wrong and that he lied.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

"Dan" stated how UNH lost another "top recruit"

I remember being upset because the loss of Vechione represented a troubling trend at UNH in terms of evaluation and recruiting management (not because he was a top recruit). I still feel that way - but you didn't get my argument then and you obviously don't get it now (or don't want to). I think its hilarious to listen to you crush hokydad, when you are exactly the same...

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Hokydad is going to rush here to tell you all that Vecchione is under strong consideration for a Frozen Four-caliber club and will frame his discussion in the sense that he is going to be better off at a better school. Of course, he's talking about Union. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2016

Dan, you referred to MV as a top recruit, referenced his numbers at Malden Catholic and then went on to compare his stats to that of Sean Collins and Steve Saviano---insinuating they are comparable. I told you then, and I will tell you now---hes not anywhere near the same caliber of player. I know this because I watch alot of highschool/junior hockey and keep up to date with trends in hockey at the junior/highschool level. I do not believe you do the same.

I understand your argument in regards to managing of recruits---but i will tell you the same thing I told you then---the staff was relieved to see him go as they knew they made a mistake giving him a 75% scholorship. If they had a preference I assure you they would have had it work out just as it did. So in that sense it is nothing like Cam Reid or Joey L.

All this B.S. would end if Hokydad would just have the sack to come on here and say he was wrong. Still waiting....
