UNH Hockey 2023 Off Season Thread Turn and Face the Strange

I know some of you folks have been following college softball, and while I'm not a big fan, the Oklahoma kids seem to be doing things right, and in a very different yet positive way. Wishing them all the best, truly.

This is what happens when you let a bunch of nerds from Johns Hopkins - a notorious lacrosse school - have some say on a real sport like hockey. Have any of you guys actually seen lacrosse recently? Go ahead and run "FOGO" into your search engine of choice. You get bonus points if you can tell me what FOGO stands for without looking it up (I only know because a close pal was a D-1 lacrosse player at West Point many years ago).

So that's the template the JH nerd squad is referencing in trying to apply this to hockey. Now apply that to hockey, and ask yourself, "Is this a better quality game for spectators - US - if we have hockey FOGO's?"

Hockey and soccer are arguably the two sports least impacted by nerds this generation. It would be nice if we could keep it that way. Baseball has only started to push back (slightly) on some stuff that killed the spectator experience in recent years. Football and hoops no longer bear any resemblance to the games I played as a kid - and no, that's not a good thing. RESIST the nerds and stats geeks as if your game depended on it - because it does. JMHO.

If Bergeron and Krejci had practiced more FOGO, maybe the Bruins would be in the SC final instead of the rats.

Has anyone else seen the tweet that CHC retweeted about Mr Conmy. Quotes comments from NZ concerning his draft potential. It sounds like the real deal could finally land on our door step. Hard to believe it he will certainly help in the rebuild.

Yeah, next year's team is shaping up really nicely, what with Conmy joining Stutzle and Commesso. Oh ... wait ...

Anyone heard if Ty Conklin will be back at UNH this coming season, as a salaried goalie coach, with a third paid assistant now allowed per new NCAA rule? If so, what will be the source of funds?

Conklin is making enough money in his day job; continuing as the 3rd assistant would be UNH's cheap way out.

So it looks like the rumor of UNH playing "dirty pool" ended up being false. Fessenden changed his mind, or UMass did.

Unless the "dirty pool" would be rug pulling a transfer within hockey east late in the game, I'm having a hard.tome believing that now. It really is starting to sound like the whatever happened was not UNH playing games though. Clearly not an NCAA eligibility issue if he is going to Canisius.

No worries, as we have Jakob Hellsten from Ljusdal, Sweden, via two years at Nodak, as back up in net now, as he moves from PWR 18 team to PWR 49 team — ouch!

Best wishes to David Fessenden as he wraps up his college career at Canisius, as he moves from folded team to PWR 49 team to PWR 42 team — good for him.

At least Fess, and the other portal transfer, are going in the correct direction. This is more than can be said for the UNH program.

Had a conversation with another alum this weekend, who lives on the seacoast, and they were like "how is the team doing? Are they still selling out?" How's that for a media blackout covering UNH hockey these days? If there is no coverage, good or bad, then did it happen? There again, I am describing most of the """""MEDIA"""""" these days (can I use that many quotes to add emphasis??).

If he doesn't pay even a modicum of attention, as his question suggests, I would have made his week by mentioning the back to back Championships in 2021 and 2022.

Most of the media have been exposed as mere fanboys and stenographers, as you know.

It'll be interesting to watch how credible reports of President Magoo taking bribes are at first ignored, then labeled as "disinformation" of one kind or another (coming soon!), before we get to February '25 when the cat is finally let out of the bag. "Oh yeah, we probably should've figured it out sooner, oopsie! So, President Magoo, about that bombshell ... what is your favorite color? Do you like vanilla better than chocolate ice cream??"

The wise-@$$ in me loves 'Watcher's suggested quip. Sad thing is, the schmuck alum would've fallen for it ... ;-)

Watcher, now that would have been a terrific comeback. Maybe I could pass the name along to some of the few regulars here still holding on to season tickets for when they need to unload a few games.

"Couldnt get a ticket, it was a sold out show. Heard the roar of the crowd, they/them could picture the scene, put she/her head to the wall, and like a distant scream, heard a 6, 7 we want more chant, but alas, nothing but a MS7 pipe Dream."

Agree 100% Chuck on this post. I see Souzas going hard on recruits one from the mighty NCDC league..ff's. I was on these boards years ago do the BC pinheads still post? Back then no moderators and it was interesting.

I think some of them are still around. I ended up meeting most of them in person back in the day, and we would laugh and drink beers and root for our teams, and then go back on the boards and do battle the next day. And no one died or got hurt. It was the best of times, until BC figured it out and UNH didn't. Then it was no longer relevant.

I'm still here, and just hoping UNH gets to play relevant games again before I croak, so we can re-engage with whomever the "enemy" might be by then, and enjoy some honest-to-goodness banter with bite. :-)

We had the same thing with UMaine, as you'll recall, and I'm frankly jealous to see them returning to an era where they are again relevant. If our new AD dosn't understand that, then we got the wrong new AD ...

Yeah, I met Mav and e.e. darin, and even CHRIS!!! from P&WRR, among others. All good folks, just seeing life through a different college hockey lens. I don't think I met steve f and I think I would've remembered that.

The only light I see at the end of our tunnel is the Nor'easter coming northbound from Boston on the right track ...
