UNH at UMass, 2.24.2012

Re: UNH at UMass, 2.24.2012

Are they going to drop the puck?

I couldn't get a refresh for some reason....glad it's over.

Maine losing might not be a bad thing. Go BC!

Nice!

On those two quick one, Josh...

My favorite was 3 in 99 ticks in a playoff game, none of them an empty netter. Gordie Clark-Jamie Hislop-Ralph Cox. Unreal puck handling and passes -- RPI hardly even touch the puck.

Awesome TV tape (with a great radio call by Jock Mackenzie) is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUEHAUJsKDE

Plus it was 3 on 3 -- just those and the goalies on the ice throughout. Won't see that anymore.

Re: UMA 0 UNH 0, Period 1

how well what worked?

Didn't Umile call a timeout before the faceoff that resulted in the tying goal in the regional NCAA's in Manchester versus North Dakota? IIRC they setup the play with Sislo stationed at left defense for the one timer.

I'm not sure, they had a wicked long delay because of the review on the puck out of play keeping the puck in the zone, it's quite possible... I didn't know what you were talking about without a quote though, seemed out of context! :)

Re: UMA 0 UNH 0, Period 1

You could be correct that Umile was using the delay for the play review as a defacto timeout.

Not that he would ever admit to it but its a good question why Umile has clearly changed his stance about using timeouts. Before the last couple years it was almost like he was making a point refusing to take timeouts despite how much a game situation cried out for using one.

Mystery solved. I mostly remember jumping around celebrating with the stranger next to me after she saw how much time was left on the clock when I pointed at it.

I was in the box between the benches and I've never felt energy in a building like at that moment and at the OT goal, and seen such shock and disbelief on a bench as the NoDak bench. It was one of my 2 favorite UNH memories (Mowers in OT in 98 is still probably my favorite...)

Speaking of important final second goals, how about Mark Johnson in 1980? Steals the puck, goes in alone, and puts one past Tretiak at 19:59 of the first to tie the Soviets.
