UNH at SCSU, Saturday, 10.22.2011

Re: UNH at SCSU, Saturday, 10.22.2011

I knew about the RoughRiders overlapping names deal, though not its reason. Nice of Ottawa do go belly up and straighten that overlap out. And that's very, very cool info about the Joe Louis name derivation -- thanks. Even if you did misspell colors.

If not for the fact that Yale's stadium at the time could not fit a regulation rugby field, American football would probably have the aforementioned 53 yard line as well. Back in the 1800's McGill and some other Canadian school played an exhibition of rugby football, but Yale's stadium was too small to fit the field. When they decided to start playing the game themselves they went with the smaller American sized field. The Canadian game stayed with the larger rugby sized field.

Again, really cool and interesting info, Dean -- thanks. I've actually been to McGill's field -- they very sensibly play on turf.

I personally blame a lot of unfortunate things on Yalies, including some US Presidents. FWIW, both my dad and I went to UNH as undergrads, as did my mom, sister, and wife. He went to Yale for his grad degree, while I went to Harvard. Think of it as evolution of the species.

Goal by US!!! Excellent.

Well, hello again everyone. Just logged on -- so, I gather Wyer is in? Sounds like a good call. Glad to see UNH at least picked up a late score.

Offense seems to be playing better, but defense is still a major problem. Wyer made a couple of big saves early. Sounds like he was hung out to dry a little on the two goals. Sorkin is starting to put together a very nice season, netting his third of the year. Kinda wondering what's going on with Kevin Goumas. Kid had such a good year last year, and so far he's been all but invisible.
