Yeah I was just having this conversation a little while ago.Cruel twist that Wyer got the loss last night, btw!
And there they go.heeeere we go
Hey Josh and Dean!
Dean: while listening to the very cool UNH win over ZooMass in their final meeting, I also watched a very interesting but confusing CFL game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and some team from Montreal with a girl's name (also had a weird mark over their e's).
Lots of bizarre things, which the Blue Bombers pulled out with 16 fourth quarter points.
First, the field was ten yards too long -- literally had a 53 yard line. Weirder still: each team repeatedly quick-kicked on 3rd down, trying to catch the other team nappping. But it never did. You'd think they'd learn.
Good game though.
By the way, what kind of bomber is blue -- is this a CAF deal??
I knew about the RoughRiders overlapping names deal, though not its reason. Nice of Ottawa do go belly up and straighten that overlap out. And that's very, very cool info about the Joe Louis name derivation -- thanks. Even if you did misspell colors.I think the wacky Canadian rules have something to do with the metric system.
As for the Blue Bombers, believe it or not they got their name after Joe Louis. Their team colours were blue rather than brown so they went with Blue Bombers.
I know lot's of people like to make fun of the CFL for having two teams with the same name, although that hasn't been true for some time as the Ottawa franchise has been defunct for awhile now. However, even when they were around, they didn't have the same name. The Ottawa team was known as the Rough Riders, two words. They were named after the guys who would organize log booms, otherwise known as log rollers or rough riders. The Saskatchewan Roughriders, one word, were named after the guys that harvested wheat.
