UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

Anyone happen to be watching the jumbotron last night in between the second and third periods at the little girl that was slapping the Maine players 5 when they went out on the ice and the cop drove her off! What harm was she doing?

LOL.........some things never change. :(

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

Just make them play their games in the pit. No one goes to the games anyway.

I agree - make them play the games in the pit - when they start to win and generate some money to justify any improvements to the facility, then capital can be spent. Don't play in a facility too big to justify the money spent to change back and forth between ice and court (its got to cost more for the changes than is generated by ticket revenue). Honestly, is there an economics mind on campus?

Umm... they are winning. And they would have more than sold out the Pit the past five games (about the point people noticed they were starting to win).

Thanks for paying attention though.

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

The story of the weekend lies in the events of the first period, IMO. In order for Maine to have any chance of stealing points, they need to finish the first period with a lead - they are 7-0-2 when ahead after 1. To counter that, UNH is 2-4-3 when trailing after 1. UNH with a first period lead is 8-0-0, compared to Maine's record of 0-4-0 when trailing.

I guess that was WAY off. UNH led 1-0 on Friday and 2-0 tonight after the first and Maine pulls out the sweep!!! So much for that

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

This was a great weekend of college hockey for a Maine fan. Its been quite awhile since Maine has swept a good team at Alfond. Not sure how the momentum swung after UNH dominated the first 25 minutes of the game but it sure did. It seems Darling has a hard time getting going but a couple of glove saves early in the 2nd and the tide changed. I will say Maines D has a hard time with speed.

Hopefully Tim talked to UNHs trainer and asked him to look at Nyquist. He performed a miracle on Butler, hopefully he's kind enough to do that for Gus:p

What happened to Nyquist anyway? I saw him limp his way to the locker room.

Back injury is what I heard but it doesn't seem like you'd keep weight off your right knee with a back injury??

I heard the back, but he gave the thumbs up to us (the media) after the game. It sounds like by Tim Whitehead he will be re-evaluated though. For all post game comments you can find them here

Much appreciated, Sportsmaniac. It's fun to hear the players talk and see some of the behind the scenes activity.

Can't sleep even after a 2 hour ride home. What a weekend! When Flynn scored I wanted to pile onto the ice! Diamond had his best weekend. He hit everything on the ice even the ref. Keep up the good work bears, I look forward to next weekend and maybe I'll get my voice back by then!:D

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

Classic weekend of Umile-coached hockey. Mirrors their playoff mentality...start strong...choke down the stretch!

I'm still in shock that Maine came back from 2-0 deficits both nights. Awesome games.

In all seriousness, UNH is good. They can skate and gave us a hell of a time, just exciting games all around to watch.

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

When the he** are they going to get squeakball out of Alfond - it was a stupid idea from the start; ........

Basketball is also played at Agganis (sp?) Arena. It's not unique to Alfond. It would be nice to get basketball back in the pit with a renovated facility. All it takes is money.;)

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

Was Maines penalty kill that good or is UNHs PP not up to snuff. They liked to pass the puck around but they sure didn't like shooting the puck. Maines PK hasn't been that good this year so I'm wondering if they have picked it up or...

Re: UNH at Maine - Feb 5/6 (Flame on!!)

back in the day even when unh was in the top 5, I would expect a sweep up at alfond. Guess it was bound to happen again one of these days.

UNH has swept Maine (prior to this weekend), 5 straight games at the Alfond. :(

In terms of UNH passing the puck alot, sort of reminds me of Maine earlier in the year. Maine had no confidence. Now, Maine is crashing the front of the net and shooting the puck on net continuously. I think it's a combination of UNH looking for the open shot and an improving Maine PK.
