UNH 2026-27 Season Let's Go 'Cats!

Is anyone else watching online? Johnson came out of the corner and fell to the ice (it sure looked like he was hauled down) and the referees arm shots into the air…

So either the penalty was somehow on Johnson/UNH or the referee put one back in his pocket.

I disagree that the officials favored Vermont. UNH did all they could to harm themselves this weekend/tonight. But, I’m going to need an explanation on that one…
💯

Saw that as well. Again speaking to the bad officiating this weekend. I couldn’t believe that wasnt called, but the one on Zebeski was. I’d be livid if I were Souza

But…

He DID call it! I’ve watched the play over several times. His arm is up right away, and it stays up the entire time he’s in the frame (as he skates almost all the way from beneath the goal line to the UNH blue line). He just never blew the whistle and ate the call when things got exciting.

Everyone who can should go watch that on ESPN+

That’s not simply a blown call. I find that unethical.

Quick hits...
Pathetic. They earned it. Should be thoroughly embarrassed...
Zebeski cost this game. But is fairness, his second penalty (in a 4 minute span) - boarding - was BS. He finished his check to the vt guy's side, not on the numbers.
Dan -- 100% -- the refs arm went up. We will never know why.
And I've about had it with Lavins taking important D-zone face-offs on the PK. Unfortunately, Ring is even worse.
The kittymounts probably used up a whole season of luck in one weekend. You're welcome...
Lastly, when thinking about it from a conspiratorial angle - I'm now convinced this crew is trying to get their coach fired!!

Judge for yourself. I can’t see anyway he thought he had a call ON the Wildcats but that’s the only excuse (tell me if I’m wrong)…

Blown calls are one thing. I don’t see anything other than an official changing his mind to let a breakaway occur for the home team.

The players deserve better. And a coach who desperately needs a spark to save his job (in spite of what some may think of his coaching ability) deserves better than a referee embarrassed to blow dead a breakaway.

I’m sure there will be zero ownership from HE or said official.

I’ve been debating flying home to see the Maine series but, at this point, why!?

100% agree you can see the arm go up and it looked to be a call against UVM. But then the breakaway and GWG. Perhaps the ref had plans for Halloween and had to get home…

Atrocious if you ask me. I hope Souza files a complaint with the league but not sure what good it would do.

Should be another winnable series next weekend against UML. But at this point who knows. Depends on which UNH team shows up next weekend…

Dan - thx for the video cut. What the ref saw was tripping on the vermont kid. No question abt it.

Hope you do Dan would love to meet you and reminisce about your GWG against Gilford 😉

Hey just for fun someone on Facebook says the official is calling an embellishment on a blatant trip? Discuss.
Absolutely no way you call an embellishment penalty like that in overtime. His hand went up right as Johnson was falling. I find it hard to believe he was embellishing at all.

An unfortunate officiating weekend for UNH on both nights led to tying/GWG for the Catamounts. The funky bounce tonight seemed like fate it wasnt meant to be for the wildcats this weekend.

As bad as Souza seems at motivating his guys after a winning weekend, I feel he has historically done a better job after a tough weekend like this. Let’s hope for a strong rebound next weekend against UML.

Really great points...once I settled down I realized that the weekend...while yeah disappointing and bizarre it was just one thing after another.
Wasnt for lack of effort I was right there and felt the 'Cats worked just as hard as UVM. (Who Ive already offered well deserved congrats)
Truth be told Oster stood on his head both nights...we didnt always have a fluid plan for offense IMHO and...we never seemed to get the bounces UVM often did.
Sure the officiating reeked but at least we fought off 2 5 on 3's (still in no way is having 3 of these ok in a weekend). Sadly tho as a rule it's tough to win when you spent over half a period in the box. 🤨
Ok onto Lowell!!!! Go 'Cats!

No matter how hard the players compete or how much individual talent emerges on the roster, the results continue to point in the same direction. The team may battle, steal a few games they shouldn't, and occasionally show flashes of what could be, but under Mike Souza's leadership the ceiling appears limited. At some point, effort alone is not enough. Coaching ultimately determines whether strong performances translate into wins, and the pattern over multiple seasons suggests that's not happening often enough. The reality is that even when the boys play well, it feels inevitable that they'll lose more games than they win as long as Souza remains behind the bench.

And please, stop blaming this on UNH's economics, the lack of a cush setting (have you seen some of the arena's we have played in), or player compensation. The talent is there. To Dan's point why do you have Svartstrom as an extra skater only. The bigger problem is what happens once the puck drops. Too often the team looks unprepared for key situations, adjustments come late or not at all (Souza should have been a raging maniac on the bench tonight), and games that are within reach slip away. At this point, the shortcomings are less about resources and more about game planning, in-game decision-making, and the ability to adapt when opponents make adjustments. The players have shown they can compete. The coaching staff has not shown it can consistently put them in position to win. Not putting the team in a position to win caused the atrocious officiating to come into play this whole weekend. (Optimistic after Souza).

Excellent analysis. Of course, the same post could have been written last year. Or, the year before that.

Spot on and this should be emailed to the new AD. Hearing alot about game altering calls and I totally get that...but when things seem to trend in the same direction year in...year out...🤷‍♀️
