UNH 2025 Offseason: Where in the World is MS7?

I remain impressed that MS7 lost only Conmy to the portal. My guess is that MS7 is out of schollie money for any more additions to the roster.
Losing only Conmy is a good result but that's not Mike's doing. The eligibility of CHL players (read: flood of new talent) has turned the portal into a potential graveyard, or, upgrade inventory for D-3 schools. Look at a portal tracker. I'll bet less than half the kids in there have found a new team. That risk is a bright red light now, as in, "bail on this team and this scholarship $$, and risk not getting picked up and ending up at Bridgewater State, paying for everything".

And UNH is not a team to cut loose non-performing players (and coaches).

Hundred years of Wildcat hockey webinar tomorrow noon to 1 pm.
I agree Snively and that's why they're stuck as a hit or miss team with the latter being for the last ten years. The coaching staff has not developed players like they should be. In the early 2000's to maybe 2010 players advanced from year to year, Paul Thompson,Bobby Butler,Steve Saviano ect. That's not happening now maybe more lack of talent than anything else?. I would also do more off ice training, they just seem gassed in the third period. They were outscored 44-32 in third and OT.

Yup, and even 5-10 years ago, Eric MacAdams, Kohei Sato, and Eric Esposito maybe did not have goal scoring in their skill sets, but at least they weren’t “gassed in the third period.”

All season, it was clear that five minutes into the third that the team was losing steam and that Gagne would take a cheap penalty behind the play.

That's a lack of coaching and training. Can't blame fitness on a scoreboard or rink size.

Did TyK ever look gassed on our former “big sheet”? Time to resume wind sprints up and down the ice in “practice.”

Watched /listened to the webinar today. The featured guests were Coach Umile, Andy Brickley, Brandy Fisher, and Ellen Weinberg.

All in all, it was an entertaining trip down memory lane listening to the four of them speak about their memories at UNH. The reoccuring theme - all of them are 100% beind the current coach staff for both the Mens and Womens teams. Umile even emphasized the need to renovate the Whittemore Center to boost Souza's recruiting efforts, and heaped tremendous praise on his coaching.

Anyone else not surprised??

Nico Tournas UNH 2006 recruit was the 12th pick in the USHL phase 2 draft, was also the first New England player chosen. Nikita Konevych UNH 2006 recruit was taken 39th. Iv'e complained that Tournas should be brought in this year but Souza's not listening. let's hope they don't lose him.

There were a few more UNH recruits (see below) - plus several NH natives selected...

When I went to check names of who was selected in the USHL draft I saw that Elite Prospects lists another CHL commitment, who I have not seen listed anywhere else. Felix Gagnon, F, Saguenay, QC (Chicoutimi Sagueneens).

Edit: Looks like news broke yesterday per a Sagueneens Twitter announcement.

Either way, here is the final forward piece I wanted - and with some playmaking acclaim/ability. Gagnon had a line of 24-30--54 in 61 games this season for the Sagueneens. He also played four seasons for Baie-Comeau. In 2023-24 he posted 21-37--58 in 54 games for the Drakkar, while also winning QMJHL Best Defensive Forward Honors...

LeClerc - Oliver - Gagnon
Newcomb
- Ring - Cronin
Winters - Lavins - Turner
R. MacPherson - C. MacPherson - Skrastins/Siedem
--
Walsh - Bradshaw - DeTurris

That makes 16 forwards - with (potentially) a nearly rebuilt top-six - and probably rounds out the group for this coming season. Not bad work, considering how much they had to scramble late. Let's hope the MJ to NCAA adjustment is a seamless one. UNH's season pretty much depends on the four CHL forwards translating their CHL scoring to the college level...

After adding Chauvette, Cronin & Gagnon, they're pretty much set. Would still love to see one more defensive transfer or CHL pick-up. If they can get one they become pretty interesting at the very least...

Blake Cash (291, Youngstown)

Here is some info I had on him… good center…

Felix Gagnon(Chicoutimi(QMJHL)), 6/10/04, RC, NZ 3.75, 6’ 175 lbs, plays in all situations, won defensive forward of the year in QMJHL, has speed, net front disruptor, screening and tipping, gritty, penalty killer, good on draws at 64%, good with the puck on his stick

Nifty backhand score on the rush: https://youtu.be/HJglO2e8vKk?si=OHXhsQG5ZjY-KgV_
Defensive forward of the year: https://chl.ca/lhjmq/en/video/felix-gagnon-takes-home-the-guy-carbonneau-trophy/

It's finally official - there's now *another* DivI New England school known by its abbreviation as UNH:

So my question is: how do we distinguish between them going forward? Should our beloved Wildcats follow the Ohio State model and become tUNH? Or maybe we can play up our claim as the original UNH and abbreviate it as UNHo? The Chargers don't have a hockey team, so there won't be any confusion there, but should we ever play these new NEC members in basketball, field hockey (which would certainly excite HockeyRef), soccer, etc. there's bound to be a little confusion: "Great play by UNH! Ummm, the Chargers, no the 'Cats" ... On the 5oth Anniversary of the release of "Holy Grail," this has all the hallmarks of "What is your favorite color? Blue .. no yellow ... It's into the Gorge of Eternal Peril for you!

I personally like "tUNH" for our 'Cats :):)

UHN has tradition behind it.
