UNH 2025 Offseason: Where in the World is MS7?

2026 recruit Geno Carcone finished his season last night as his team was bounce from the USHL playoffs. With a team filled with future draft picks Carcone played on the 2nd line and had 50 points in 62 games which is very respectable. He had 2 asst in the 2 playoff games. One of the better recruits hopefully he makes it to Durham in 2026.It's a shame that some of the better recruits are being hung out to dry another year and human pylons are brought right in...JMHO.
Accelerate him, Mike. Stop screwing around with recruits that have 8 points in 45 games.
Elite Prospects has Tournas coming in this fall; hope that's true.
Together, Carcone and Tournas would fill in the TBD holes from Dan's post on Saturday (#325).
And Mike, you should take it personally that Conmy bailed. Get pissed, get focused, get revenge... GET IT TOGETHER!! I've said it before -- your job depends on it.

Disappointing I'm sure to the Maine fans. But a sign of the times. Unlike the late 80's/early 90's BC pays better than Maine for hockey players.

Oh well, at least the youth hockey players in Orono won't have to worry about Conmy being rude to them.
It is disappointing he’ll be on a competitive team.

Huge for the UMaine STH who would have been exposed to his major attitude problems. Have to feel for the folks at BC who will bear that now.

I’m finished with the coaching/facility conversation for the time being. The facility upgrade is not coming this off-season and Souza is signed for another two years. So what does UNH need to improve in 2025-26…

Prior to Ryan Conmy entering the transfer portal (and regardless of what anyone says he is a huge loss) I already believed UNH needed to add another impact forward, defenseman and goaltender to make significant improvement. Now its two impact forwards…

Newcombe - Ring - (TBD)
(TBD) - Oliver - LeClerc
Winters - Lavins - Turner
R. MacPherson - C. MacPherson - Siedem
Skrastins

Walsh, Bradshaw, DeTurris

DeAngelis - Conn
(TBD) - Carr
Fitzgerald - Player

Grimes, DeHaro, Philbrick, Hahn

Whale / (TBD)
Seguin-Lescarbeau

If they can fill these holes, that leaves a lot of unknowns but also brings quite a bit of potential.

Two top scoring lines, one elite-skating, match-up line with offensive upside and a fourth line to rotate players in and out of the line-up and see what sticks.

The wild-card is Ryan MacPherson. I think it was a mistake not to play him in a much larger role last season. I think he has a chance to be a very good player. Now? Who can say, but if he could fill the 2nd-line LW role as a playmaker for Oliver and LeClerc that would be one less need.

Defensively, they’re completely starting over considering Player’s limited role this season. I do like Conn and the two CHL commits on paper, and hopefully Fitzgerald continues to grow, while Player proves he was also underplayed. They could use a truly dependable shutdown guy.

In goal, Whale is more than good enough, but he was completely overworked last season and the lack of faith in a rotation-fit back-up proved a big mistake. I’m not sure I have that faith in ESL, so adding a 1A or 1B to the mix and splitting time to start could benefit everyone.

So, who can they get? The general consensus is that underage CHLers are waiting to commit to NCAA programs to avoid tension with their current major junior clubs and coaches. If so, that could open up the floodgates for opportunity in the coming weeks. Let’s hope that’s real. I really couldn’t tell you who the best options are in the CHL - maybe Sparkee could fill us in on the goal scorers, playmakers and shutdown defender options available to UNH…

As for the portal, the real prize left at forward for UNH would be to add an elite set-up man like Owen McLaughlin. He’ll be in demand and I’m surprised he hasn’t chosen already. Guys like Jack Cronin or Evan Werner could be solid additions as scorers. Otherwise, there are a few AHA players looking to make a jump that are somewhat intriguing like Fukakusa** and Wilde** from RIT, or Walter Zacher from RMU…

Defensively, a lot of the best portal guys are offensive defenseman. I think UNH would hope DeAngelis and Carr could handle those roles. Ben Robertson was a great two-way guy at Cornell. Shoudy? Felicio? Gadowsky has to be heading to Penn State, right? Would they finally kick the tires on Bow, NH native Nate Benoit after he hasn’t quite lived up to expectation at North Dakota and Quinnipiac?

Reidler (UNO), Zacher (Brown), Clark (AIC), Knapp (UMD), Korpi (UM), Musser (CC) would all fit the bill in goal as minimally rotating with Whale, and capable of winning more. I think Korpi or Knapp will end up at Miami.

In a perfect world, I’d grab McLaughlin, Werner, Robertson and Reidler.

More realistically, I don’t think Fukakusa, Cronin/Wilde/W. Zacher, Benoit and L. Zacher would be an impossible ask; with the CHL as an ever-changing option for prospects as their season winds down...

Let’s hope the staff is busy and prepared to add.

** Rumor per Mark Diver is the two RIT transfers will go to the same HE school. I hope that is UNH.

Unfortunately, no, his job doesn’t depend on it. Rich won’t boot him early and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another .500 ish season get him another extension in two years. I have zero faith that the powers that be at UNH will actually lift a finger to fix the very obvious rot within the walls of TWC@KAGC. That rot exists within BOTH programs that call that facility home.

Dan I appreciate your attemp to pivot the conversation back to the team. I also do this exercise several times between seasons. I am taking a different approach and only using the known players, not that a first and second liner from the portal wouldn’t be nice.
So……
I am pulling Mr Turner from your third line and moving him up to the first. Rational? While unfair to totally expect him to have a Cronin year.he is solid and let’s see if he could add some tough and perhaps develop some more goals. Try it for 2-4 of the early games.
On your second line I would pull up R Mac so he too could get more ice and development time.
On the third line, move up Siedem or a freshmen. Again, ice time and linemates are the key to development.
Skastins C Mac and Walsh n the fourth.

I’m fine with the D you named.

So my lines are:

Newcombe. Ring. Turner
R Mac. Oliver. LeClerc
Winters. Lavins Seidem Or freshmen
Skrastins. C Mac. Walsh.

I can’t remember a year when we lost such a high percentage of our goals to graduation etc.

I save my powder for phonies like Buford, Elwood, and Norbert (hereinafter "BEN"). I poke Grouchy, because, well, he's Grouchy. BEN though are the self appointed spokesmen for UNH hockey and view this board as their private space to say whatever they want. I'd call them bullies but they are simply too dumb. So I bust their chops more than a little and point out their stupidity when appropriate. It will get boring at some point, I suppose.

Grouchy has considerably more in the intelligence department from BEN, a low bar to be sure but...... he's a bit more fun and he's caught on to me a bit. BTW, there are some excellent posters here. Kudos the Dan, for example. . Hockey Ref, too. And Sparkee. And there's more. I enjoy your posts too, Mr. Balin, and don't mind you're poking at me. After all, how could I? I'm anonymous.
Isn’t a forum where one can discuss? Never said I was a spokesman but I was the one who had a sit down with MS7. Since you just troll, offer nothing, and continue to degrade why not go elsewhere. Many of us have been on here for years, know each other personally, or talk at games.

Maybe your credibility would actually come to light if you stopped hiding behind a keyboard.

Michigan transfers Cameron Korpi (GK) and Will Felicio (D) would have both been great pick ups for UNH. Korpi may have been an awkward fit with three years of eligibility remaining - especially if UNH gave significant scholarship money to ELS - but Felicio would have been a tremendous addition. Instead they're both chasing that Liberty League $$$ at powerhouse Union College...

Les Habs in, Jackets (and JvR) out of NHL postseason.

Original two Canadian teams in, original four American teams out of NHL postseason.

Interesting point, ATW, which got me thinking, does the percentage of lost goals matter for the following season? Here are some UNH data for the past 10 years.

Total goals, goals lost to graduation, etc., % goals lost, record following sesson

2024/25, 96, 59, 61% (44, 45.8% had Conmy stayed)
2023.24, 106, 25, 23.6%, 13-16-6
2022;23, 74, 28, 37.8%, 20-15-1
2021/22, 76, 38, 50.0%, 11-21-3
2020/21, 60, 20, 33.3%, 14-19-1
2019/20, 91, 15, 16.5%, 6-14-3
2018/19, 89, 24, 27.0%, 15-15-4
2017/18, 88, 18, 20.5%, 12-15-9
2016/17, 124, 33, 26.6%, 10-20-6
2015/16, 112, 36, 32.1%, 15-20-5
2014/15, 119, 50, 42.0%, 11-20-6

These numbers are ugly.

I must regretfully tell you my loyalties are number 1 to UNH and number 2 to BU. BC isn't on the list.
... but watching Conmy score goals for BC next season will make you happy. Strange reaction for someone who claims UNH is their team, and disavows BC.
I really got under your skin with the Morin comment, didn't I? LOL.
I guess if when you write how you "got under my skin", you meant you were dragged out behind the woodshed for a massive factual and logical beatdown, to the point where you bled on me, you may actually be right (for once).
As for your " confidential sourcing", the voices in your head caused in part from an infection attributable to eating under cooked wildlife are not really "confidential sourcing", are they? But nevertheless, please keep them confidential.
I don't need to defend or justify my sourcing, I simply know they appreciate the cover I provide for them ... and the funny thing is, word gets around when friends of those sources discover by word of mouth that I'm trustworthy, and then they also begin to confide in me.

So, whatever you do, PLEASE continue to challenge me on keeping my sources confidential. It's like free advertising, I haven't been this well sourced for 20 years, and I personally look forward to continuing to annoy the living p!$$ out of posers like you.

Surprising to see a team like BC, which has their pick of pro prospects and upcoming stars to bring in every year, would go after a kid with such red flags.
He won't be the first prima dona athlete at BC and he certainly won't be the last.

Like any team in any sport in any country around the world.

Sure, but you implied you had insight into deeper issues that you couldn't share on the board that sources had supplied to you. Was it just that he is a prima dona? Wouldn't seem to be "major attitude issues." In fact, probably more common than not among high performers.

TheGrouchyCat said:
The best players want to play on the best teams, unless they just want to pad their stats and increase their production. Speaks volumes.
Also, this take on you from him aged like milk. Is it true of Lavins now, who you fawn over?

LOL, as if ... beyond delusional. The only "powder" you have, is the stuff you apparently ingest through your nose at overaged frat reunions.

And that's "Mr. Bully Sir" to you ... at least it accurately positions me as the Alpha, and you as the gutless little beta pu$$y you truly are.

Them's the rules of engagement, pu$$y. Done wasting my precious time on you. My sincere apologies to the rest of the board.

I've witnessed certain behaviors. People whom I trust have shared similar stories. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it ain't no zebra.

I'm a big believer in keeping your options open. I don't begrudge Conmy for going to BC. An opportunity presented itself, one that will raise his profile, get access to better coaching and teammates. Loyalty in college sports doesn't exist as we once knew.

Fans cheer for laundry while players play for themselves now that we live in a NIL world wheee college leagues are made up of semi professionals.
