It occurs to me that MS7 is a shining example of the Peter Principle in action. Promoted to the level of his incompetence. I guess we'll never know if Coach Umile got it wrong when he allowed Souza to jump past Glenn Stewart, as Stew isn't ever gonna get a chance at D-1 HC now. I think we all have a pretty good idea by now that axing Borek a year or two ahead of his forced retirement was a bad move, as Scotty B seems to relish beating UNH's, errrr ... drum regularly with that awesome powerhouse Merrimack program, and their souped-up HS arena/gym masquerading as a D-1 facility.
Poor Mike could be living the life of Riley as an assistant at Brown, or UConn, or even at UNH right now, never having to speak publicly or do tawdry things like sucking up to prospective donors, when he'd rather be home early with the fam, or playing a twilight nine with his buddies over some beers at Portsmouth CC.
I would love to ask Coach Umile (under truth serum) exactly what he saw in MS7 as his successor, as opposed to the dozens if not hundreds of others who'd kill for the opportunity to be HC of a dormant D-1 nationally competitive program. And even if it turns out the vowel at the end of Mike's last name was important, couldn't Umile have found a candidate with charisma and a willingness to speak out publicly regularly, like (say) Saviano or even non-paisan like Boguniecki???
