UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

No major changes for tonight except Babs gets the nod as the extra skater for Senior Night over Walsh. No Whale so Dimatteo finishes his only year between the pipes.

Records are similar but different from the standpoint that UML has twice as many wins in hockey east than UNH does.

It was Gare? I could have sworn it was Winnik who said that. Either way it was a great line. Haha
If Lanny had not separated his shoulder in the 2003 Regionals, who knows what might have been the result against the Gophs and Thomas Vanek in Buffalo?

Devlin’s gotta feel good about getting “the last fish” at the Whitt this season in his senior year, regardless how the game ends.

Cats need to score a goal or two on this 5-minute major, as their PP has STUNK this weekend.

Cue the duck boats we are not in last place!!!😆😆😆 Happy we won it and happy for the excellent season Cronin had and glad for Li Dev tonight.
...Don't get me going on the 'hard to beat a team 3 times' 🤣
Onto Lowell...Go 'Catttsssss!

Back to UML Wednesday. Tough to beat a team 3 games in a row. Does MS7 get another 3 years after a heroic effort to not be 11?

you think the goalie with the better save % and better GAA average probably should have seen a bit more time this year... maybe?

Nice job coaches for being able to identify talent that can play in the games... not just practice

He's played well. Let's hope MS7 doesn't create a goalie controversy Weds and he continues to ride Rico and his hot streak
He'd be crazy NOT to play Rico! But what do we know? ha! I'd also like to see Ronan Walsh in that line up as well. Some stuff on the game last night...

*Cronin continues to have his hot streak...looked at stats and he's either going to be the leading scorer for the season goals wise?
*Liam Devlin should be very proud of his 80 career...didn't know he was in that ball park. In retrospect, I think he could've been a 100 point guy perhaps...
*Too bad we couldn't make hay on the 2 (right) 5 on 3's we had, but at least, we scored 2 PPG's.
*UML played their typical slow down, methodical style of hockey and were better organized than the night before. I thought we played alot better
the night before...
*Marty Lavins uni mishap continues to be the side note of the weekend...heard they had to dig deep to find a replacement Friday
*Personally thought the officiating reeked (on both sides) but, I'm not a real 'hockeyref'

Going forward tho...I'm filled with the 'what could have been' as far as qualifying for a Regional, esp one in our own backyard....I'm glad our
'Cats have had a decent upsurge but oh, just too bad nonetheless. Who knows...stranger things have happened!

Cronin has looked good and has surpassed Devlin as a true scoring threat

Walsh has been underutilized all season which is unsurprising considering the senior heavy roster. I like his game.

Devlin should have been a 100 point scorer, agreed. Was it not living up to his potential or was it an inability for MS7 to make his players better?

The UNH PP is directly responsible for the ever growing bald spot. So little cycling, movement or decisive execution. Always looking for the "perfect" play/shot.

How does the equipment manager "lose" or "forget" to bring the jersey of a first line player?

Officiating has been rotten all season. Nothing to see here, move along.

It's always interesting to see Umile when he comes back to campus to watch game.

Nestled in Section 103, he holds court throughout the game, accepting well wishers, former players, university staff, friends and strangers with grace, a handshake and a few quick words. It says as much about his legacy and impact on campus as his coaching record and track record of success.

Which got me thinking about MS7 and how he sequesters himself from fans, the general public, most media and critics. Considering how little anyone actually sees him outside anyone affiliated with the university, he isn't doing himself any favors in the court of public opinion nor is he creating a reservoir of goodwill in the unlikely event he get extended after the 2027 season.

Does he even care? Is he a natural introvert? While Dick was no regular member of Toastmasters, he could always be counted on to be the public face of the program...to fans, donors and the media. The difference between coaches is stark and MS7's reticence to engage with STH outside the poorly organized and run BBQ at the Whit is worrisome and infuriating.

Good point on the senior/grad-heavy roster this season.

Stats through regular season (before MBPBEGAM game):

Team: 94 goals + 164 assists = 258 points

Seniors/grads: 35 goals + 80 assists = 115 points

Forwards: 28-37=65 points
Cronin: 16+11=27
Devlin: 9+14=23
Sweeney: 2=6=8
Lovett: 1+6=7

Blue line: 7+43=50 points
Gagne: 4+12=16
Huard: 0+11=11
Reid: 1+10=11
Jensen: 2+4=6
Lindner: 0+6=6
Babbage: 1+0=1

DiMattio: appeared in only 7 games

So, looks like there will be lots of openings for incoming players, especially on the blue line, even if there are not losses to the portal.

This begs the question if MS7, with the knowledge this was a lost season six weeks ago, didn't take advantage of playing more underclassmen this year in preparation for a rebuild next year?

Well it wasn’t the year we thought it would be. Enough disappointment to go around. While we can always hope to at least mess up the rest of HE with a couple of wins in the coming week, hard to bet on.
I do want to send a big shoutout to a unheralded D man, Luis Lindner. Doesn’t get any print or note that i have seen. While not proposing a Defensive ranking I have truly appreciated his play these past 2 years. He doesn’t see as much ice as the game goes on, perhaps because of his size but he is incredibly consistent in his play and has one of the best sticks on the team. He can’t always move a bigger player off the puck but can always dig it away with strong stick work. D men are best when they compliment there pairing partner and he has done that well. Thank you Luis, you will be missed.

Genuine question.

Can someone explain to me why a faction of UNH fans ferociously defend Souza and his track record of mediocrity? Seven years is a significant sample size.
