Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

Yup, I asked who scored the first UNH goal in Snively, on 13 February 1965, almost 30 years before Tommy Nolan (or someone) got the inaugural goal (or game winner) at the Whitt. I think that sonar or ATW will get this one.

Could be a long off-season of sports trivia questions, eh, Chuck?

I cheated and looked it up.

By Jeflf Hatch
UNH students and faculty were
finally able to see their hockey
team play last Saturday in the
beautiful new Whoops Snively Arena.
Playing an aggressive hard
skating game the Blue sextet held
a slim lead until the final minutes
of the third period when a
deflected Norwich shot tied the
game 3-3. The Cadets went on to
win in overtime.

Page 11 has a picture of Bjorkman handing the puck to the player.

Looking that way, isn't it, Snives? I can't even whine about the lack of goalie recruits anymore … :)

Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

Now this is interesting.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Ward will reportedly transfer to UNH. Nice get for the Wildcats. <a href="https://t.co/bAhHm6op5e">https://t.co/bAhHm6op5e</a></p>— Jeff Cox (@JeffCoxSports) <a href="https://twitter.com/JeffCoxSports/status/1253310895263973376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 23, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And to answer the follow up question, the NCAA is voting next month on a "one time transfer" rule that would allow players to transfer without sitting out a year.

If so, it answers my biggest question, from March
Jr.Crookshank-----Jr.Engaras----------Sr.Grasso
Fr.Richels----------Jr.Pierson----------Sr.Kelleher
Sr.Sato------------So.Stevenson------Sr.McAdams
Fr.Margel----------So.Hermann-------Jr.Esposito
So.Hankinson-----Fr.Gendron--------Sr.Sacco
Jr.Cippolone-------Fr.Sweeney????---

So, I would think either Margel or Cafarelli but probably not both are brought in next year. There are several questions, but projecting Richels to get a top 6 role from HS is a big assumption and probably doesn't work. But he would fit there by profile, keeping Sato on the third line where he is more effective given his limited offensive skills.

If Ward is eligible right away, and if there is hockey, then that resolves the issue right there. One of Margel or Cafarelli is deferred to 2021. Not a bad top 6.

Did anyone see this one coming? Dan?

Really hoping that we get to see college hockey this coming year, even if just for a conference schedule beginning in January.

Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

Not 100% sure, but I think Snively65 was talking about the opening goal at the previous arena. :)

Woops (or should that be Whoops), my bad, perused the question a little too quickly. Snively was a great barn, but the opening was well before my time.:)

Tyler Ward committed to Denver in December, 2016, which was Souza's second season as an associate head coach at UNH:

Gotta like his first name, too.

Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

Isn't he the second Denver kid to transfer to UNH in recent years? MacKinnon the other one??

Sounds like a good development for a team in need of a productive top 6 scorer.

HR approves welcome to the 'Cats Tyler Ward!! Great news..

Thanks for joining Ward. Imagine if Stutzle was still coming to Durham also. Seems talent is trickling back to the Whitt

Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

Looking at 'Watcher's last post … you get the feeling this will be the new way of the D-1 world, with increasing player portability. Not sure I like it, but no one asked me, so the best we can hope for is that MS7 and his staff are prepared to work within the new framework for the betterment of the UNH program. It'll be even better when UNH starts to become first choice for these players.

Re: UNH 2020 Off-Season Thread: That Rinky-Shrinky Thang And Other Lively Banter :D

He (Ward) will sit out a year? Yes?

I think that he gets to play this season, that is, if anyone plays this season.

Yes man sure hope so...even in a reduced schedule. I just thought transfers sat out a season unless its a situation like BvR (I know zip about this stuff just past situations?)
