Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/

there's a poll for early season lock on F4...UND 2nd to BU. Failed to put Michigan on there and put Vermont on there. BU, UND, Vermont, DU and Miami on there.

Thought it was a bit interesting.

Couldn't see the poll but I found this story.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4579737

Seems the NCAA is considering eligibility rule changes to allow Colleges to recruit from pro teams, however:

The proposal, introduced in June, is under review by the NCAA constituency. Coaches associations are key stakeholders, and those with tennis, volleyball and football have either signaled support or formally registered no concern. So far, only hockey has balked at the proposal, which will be amended to exempt that sport, Rogers said.

Gee what coach or hockey team could have balked.
I see nothing wrong with recruiting 25 year old Canadians.:)

I saw a guy with a Holy Cross jacket on today at work...I laughed a bit

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

With UND being 2nd, and 7 others WCHA teams (including next year's inductions), the conference could be getting the strength back.
Its a little early to be stating that I think. Let the season shake things out.

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

Both from the Sioux blog:

As expected, Genoway was named WCHA DPOTW.

And then, two Sioux recruits are both listed as A prospects according to the NHL CSB. Both forward Brock Nelson and goalie Zane Gothberg were listed as A, so they are projected to go in the top 2 rounds.

I think polls at this time of the year are a waste of ink. In the current USCHO poll, 7 of the top 20 teams either haven't played a game yet or have a losing record.

True, but it's always something to keep an eye on. We'll see what the season brings, but it could be a good year for the WCHA.

Maybe we could make this thread ( http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?t=85807 ) the Genoway for Hobey thread.

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

I could see Genoway making a legitimate push for the Hobey if he keeps his current play up.

This won't hurt him either:

In player news, Chay Genoway was named one of 20 finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award today. The award considers excellence in the classroom, character, community and competition.

Another 5 goals tonight. 20 for the year, most in D1 hockey.

Still no powerplay goals allowed. (edited)

3 WCHA games and only 3 goals allowed. Great D.

GO SIOUX !

I think he means PP goals. The Sioux haven't allowed a PP goal all season yet, and UND's PP is clipping along pretty well. It helps that Marto and Genoway are getting good shots on net from the point.

Oh, gotcha...

I agree on the pp, it's looked good. I commented on that point in a different thread when the pp was questioned.

Yeah. No PP goals against the Sioux. 50% on PP tonight. Thought special teams was going to have a great series against UAA with 3 key UAA players out.

So far Sioux have had their way with them on PP and killing penalties. One week is not enough time for the UAA substitutes to gain enough experience to cope with the Sioux.

Sounds like Lamoureux should be the star of the game.

Genoway was awsome also. And nice shutout for Dell but hey he didn't have that many shots to stop.:p Just kidding. Good to see the shutout.:)

Re: UND 2009-2010 Season Thread - The Lawnmower and Cookie tossing edition!

I really like that 5 games in 17 guys have scored, 14 with more than 1 point. Makes it tough to focus on only one line. :)

Couple articles in the Herald:

That's crazy about the defense scoring from last year...

The UND defensemen, who didn’t score a goal until Nov. 22 last season, already have put the puck in the net eight times (the Sioux defensemen didn't get their eighth goal until Jan. 16 last season).

Yeah because we gave up one Short Handed goal to the Goofs last weekend.
Our Insignificant players did well last night they had like five points.
