UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

As much as I love college football, I get fired up for SEC, Big 10, ND, Big 12, Pac 10, ACC, Boise, etc. I'm a much bigger college fan than a pro fan, but I wouldn't even give consideration to seeing UMass play Akron, BGSU, CMU, EMU, WMU, NIU, etc. I have enjoyed some games on ESPN2 on Wednesday night involving MAC teams over the years, but the majority of fans in the greater Boston market are pro fans and need name recognition to get excited. If UMass was in a conference with BC, Syracuse, UConn, Rutgers, etc, I'd imagine they would have a better following. Just tough to expect non-diehard UMass fans to want to see directional schools of the midwest come marching into Foxboro.

Even duke flirted with low attendance for awhile.

Its more that they are trying hard to be nationally relevant... It is hard work if you aren't already there. This is why I'd like to see our non-bball sports be developed because while its nice to get bball exposure, it doesn't form a solid bedrock. Get overall competent and the momentum will build.

If you build it they will come only works when there is demand... As such dead baseball players wanting to play once more

No knowledge of field hockey, but the FH program seems to be superb at D2 level for UML. Hopefully they can transition that to the D1 level. Playing at LeLacheur should help UML gain credibility in D1 baseball - for the region.

The way I see it is UMA wants the plaudits without the grunt work

Only 59 days until the home opener. Can't wait. Is any one planning on going to Michigan and or the Penn State games.
Yes, I'll be going to both. Going to hit the Tuesday game at Princeton as well.

45 days till the pre-season game! Not that I'll be there!

I will be at the regular season opener though, but of course, out the next night.

Ahem ... someone saw the commercial... :o

How are the royalties treating you? Stock options perhaps.

I too will miss the preseason game. Sorry, but Vegas wins and it should be hysterical to see Patronick stumble around the strip completely blitzed.
