Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I hate having this feeling, but Lowell has to sweep this weekend.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I was thinking the same thing. This series, the ASU series, and the AIC game are the scary (PWR) games on the schedule.

Agreed. These games will come back and haunt UML at the end of the season if they don't win them all. Losses/ties to lesser teams did much to contribute to UML not making NCAAs last season.

Looking forward to the weekend. Hopefully the usual announcer is back as last week, the replacement guy was horrendous. No enthusiasm, no flow, messing up in-game promotions, and so on. If the usual announcer is no longer the announcer, hopefully the new guy got some lessons, reviewed prior seasons' game tapes, and has a better sense of what to do and how to do it. If not, get someone else.

The guy from the last few years (Ben) is gone. From his Twitter page:

Wish @RiverHawkHockey all the best this season as I step down as PA announcer. Thanks for your support over the past 5 years! #UnitedInBlue

Well that's not good. I can chalk last week's game up to first game jitters and inexperience but hope he's more on game this week or hopefully just a temp since they needed someone to cover. He was painful last week.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

He was back with a vengeance. I swear he double shifts.

Kudos to the CC goalie. the guy was a monster. I tried to find their thread to say so but .... crickets....

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Shots on goal was 55-18, which sounds lopsided enough. Attempted shots was 98-35.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Both CC goals were the result of two pretty brutal turnovers by Lowell, the second one especially. I think they were really hurt tonight by not having Zink back on the blue line.

McGrath for Dmowski was a pretty obvious substitution, but I was surprised to see Francis sit for Edwardh.

I know looking at this right now is absurd, but this just made me laugh.

The USCHO Game Recap says that Gambradella's goal was on a rebound of a Dmowski shot
With 12 minutes left in the first, Colorado College’s Sam Rothstein went to the box for hooking, and the River Hawks capitalized on the ensuing power play. At 8:20, Joe Gambardella slapped home the rebound of a Ryan Dmowski shot from the point just 19 seconds into the man advantage. At the first intermission, the game was tied up at one with Lowell outshooting the Tigers 17-8.

Not bad for a guy that didn't even dress for the game.

Oh yeah... Not even worth looking at until January. But hopes start early.

Would like to find out if our shooting bonanzas and resulting lack of goals is part of a pattern or hot goaltending.

The cc goalie played great... Will have to see if he comes back tonight after that diving soccer save in the 3rd. Missed the first period because my 45 min commute through DC because 2 hr 10 min.

Long and short... If the shot totals are similiar I want to see more goals. Of course, it's the second night and those are usually harder because the opponent knows what's coming.

Things I can get used to is always having the spark plug player... Vallorani was the last one.

This team seems to have certain long run themes like always rostering a guy named Campbell

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Wow, that CC goalie stood on his head. He was absolutely amazing. It really felt like he robbed Lowell about 4-5 times on amazing saves, and kept this from being a blowout.

Won't be there tonight, but let's move on to 3-0.

"And here coooooome the glowsticks!"

The promotions department learned a lesson that most major league baseball teams did a while ago.
Don't hand out anything that could latter be thrown out onto the field of play.

A small reminder that 10% of your audience are *******s... The next 25% are ******* followers who wouldn't do things without the first guy.

Sucks, but always true.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

I was talking about that with one of my friends. Basically saying all we need is one person to throw it, and then they'll go flying. Exactly how it played out sadly.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

First post of the year....various thoughts in no particular order:

Yes, a friend and I are heading to Duluth, assuming that our respective jobs don't **** us over more than they already are.

Yes, the announcer is new but seems to be slowly finding his game. And, hopefully, his Lowell pronunciation sheet.

I hope their goalie had a career night last night and has got that out of his season.

Attempting almost 100 shots, more than 3 have to end up in the back of the net if we're going to go anywhere this season.

Attempting almost 100 shots? Way, frelling cool!!!

With Octoberfest this afternoon, arriving earlier than you normally do to deal with traffic is probably a smart idea.

GO HAWKS!
