I don't have a problem with this... Yes, it's favoritism but you are also buying goodwill from those who care rather than the few looking to score a cheap trip to Pittsburgh... Also, it allows you not to royally screw up the school work schedule just to get one. I will wager its no more than 20 students anyhow. I would be devestated if I had to miss out because of an exam or whatnot.

These are also going to be people involved long after its over and return benefit to the school.

I agree. There is definitely a core group that was there before the run began last year and deserve to be rewarded for their loyalty and support. No problem with this at all.

I'm sure they will be. Hopefully it ensures that the EASY button will be in Pittsburgh!

I WILL be there

I know I will be...I've been following the team since my first semester at uml (08-09) and from growing up in boston furthering my hatred against bu.

They're really on the ball at Lowell, whether it's deals like this for the students (also did free tix and buses for the HE championships and $10 tix and buses to the regional last weekend) or for alumni/fans with coordinated pre-game events like in Boston and Manchester, they do it up right. And for those who couldn't make it to Manchester last weekend, they opened the Tsongas Center where you could view the game for free on the giant center ice screen (heard they had around 250 both nights last weekend) and would imagine they'll do the same thing for the Frozen Four to accomodate local fans who can't get to Pittsburgh. At the Manchester pre-game both days last weekend, they even had the campus bookstore set up at the bar/restaurant selling hats, shirts, and other logowear items as well as facepainting and sign making supplies for fans to use. They're firing on all cylinders to get fans involved.

It's a great thing they're doing, and the price is fantastic for what they're getting.

I wish I could make it to Pittsburgh, but it's not wise to take time out of work when layoffs are impending :(

Good! What's with all the imposter EASY buttons showing up in Manchester?

This is my perspective: Seeing as how I'm graduating (undergraduate) in may, as much as being the first one will be a legacy; I'm looking at it in that its another way to get students to take a more proactive role in cheering on the sports teams. Yea there are the few of us who starts the chants and all but its more like trying to keep student support strong. (practically no students during the 5 win season to being packed last 2 seasons).

I even joked around that maybe one day have the student section will be holding pieces of paper that make one student section look like an EASY button.

EDIT: And I'm slightly forced to go seeing as how I got griped for having my family take me to foxwoods for my birthday on the night Lowell won hockey east.

Will be a lot more than 250 for Thursday night, I'm sure. I wonder how easy it will be to follow the game on the big screen.

I'm so impressed with what they're doing at the university supporting all of this, night and day from when I went there. Blows away anything I can see other schools doing in terms of the events, information, coordination, etc. I saw no evidence of anything Wisconsin and Denver did for their fans in Manchester last weekend and you know if we were thrown out to Toledo or something last weekend, the university would've busted themselves to coordinate tickets, pregame event somewhere, etc.

Yeah, you have to be careful. Hopefully the Tsongas will be open for a viewing party so there's always that for those of us who can't get to Pittsburgh for one reason or another.

We've all been there in some form or another. We've all posted flyers trying to cajole people. Unauthorized adverts to support YOUR OWN SCHOOL. Trying to get res life to do game related events. Its good to see that people are continue to press. Its also good to see we don't need as much grassroots nuttiness anymore.

edit: as to the easy button... more good than bad... I forget the exact quote but mimicing is a good form of flattery... you got a hook, it worked, everybody else wants a part of it.

Funny thing: UML has Cap and Gown distribution night at the Tsongas from 4-7, pretty sure the seniors don't mind staying just a bit longer:D:D:D

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

This ride has been tremendous and although I'm ULowell through and through I didn't follow the program for a long time after I got out of School. I picked things up again about 8 years ago and wished I followed the team more in those "missing" years.

What is done is done and I've been very fortunate to meet a lot of great people over the last 5 years at the Tsongas & Beer Works (you know who you are) who are passionate about Lowell hockey; and more importantly the University.

A question for the Lowell fans here: How many texts/calls/facebook posts have you received over the last 3 weeks? It has been crazy for me!

I've heard there are only 45 tickets left so that was great to hear!
My work hates me already so I'm going to miss the first game. You can bet ill be up there for Saturday though!

Tons! I finally told Mr les that if he knew someone I did that they said congratulations because I couldn't remember them all to tell him. Amazing. Even more amazing is the amount of closet UL fans that have been congratulating us in person!

Would appreciate if someone who went to the Tsongas for regionals could answer this. I couldn't do Manchester Friday night (was right in front of the band for Saturday though!) and would have liked to hit the Tsongas but was afraid I wouldn't be able to follow the action. Went to the Sportszone instead and had a great time. Lot's of fans there and even though there were basketball games on, every TV in the place was on Lowell Wisconsin. They had the half price apps going too.

Speaking of which, Murphy's was the bomb! $2.00 Sam Summers, free sodas for my kids and half price apps!?! Awesome! We sat outside in the brilliant warm sun lovin life.
