UMaine Hockey Offseason: Insert Funny Title Here

Re: UMaine Hockey Offseason: Insert Funny Title Here

Good for monty, he will do well. Likely two maine alum on the team too!
There is three as of this season, Bishop/Shore and Brian Flynn is with Dallas also...most likely he played for there AHL team....I may be wrong on that but when the season started Flynn was part of the Dallas organization.

He plays with a lot of emotion too, which often times lends itself to leadership role, either a C or A. He seems to me to be somewhat like Shields in the way he sets up and has a great shot and a knack for hitting his spots with accuracy. But he is also a big kid that can lower a shoulder and drive to the net with a defender in his shirt. I think the weakness would be foot speed, skating speed. But I think that can develop with concentration paid on it in off-season plans.

I also agree his English is great. And UMaine seems to have a strong international center supporting international students. I too am looking forward to seeing the Great Dane in a Maine uni. I think Alfond fans will love his scoring ability.

Also, there is another player on Fargo... AJ Drobot that is tenacious and very well rounded in all aspects that has stepped up point production lately. I think he will be a solid Maine forward too. He kills penalties, plays center or left wing, good on face off, goes to the net, goes to the boards with a passion for winning puck battles... a fairly complete player. Not sure I've seen many weaknesses.

Combine those two with Dawe, whome is also scoring well in USHL... and Maine has a good group of forward additions next season. I assume Drobot is coming in next fall, but haven't heard for sure.

Hopefully, we'll hear about NLIs for next year in the not too distant future!!

An NLI signed in November, 2016 would have been for the 2017-2018 season. My understanding (from referencing http://www.nationalletter.org) is that whether that is still binding or not for 2018-2019 depends on why the recruit did not enroll for the 2017-2018 season.

I believe he signed it with full intensions of a year in juniors and then at Maine. Not sure about rules, etc...

But I would expect Great Dane, Dawe, Butala, Kleiboer, Drobot in a jersey next year. Which is to say, a big upgrade in my humble opinion.

Butala will step in, in my opinion. Central Illinois is in rebuild mode and he was caught in that. I believe he, and Spicer will step in as at home guys.

A lot of his success at Denver came with Gwozdecky’s players. I doubt he would have done as well at Maine.

Done as well means a title, another frozen four and annual trips to playoffs. You aren't stepping out far on a limb here. :) But I do believe Jimmy has leadership qualities that make him succeed wherever he goes. I believe he would have had great success at Maine too, which may not include an NCAA title in 5 years. But Jimmy probably would have had Maine in playoffs and in national picture as it stands today. Now, having said this I expect Red guides the team to top 4 finish and a playoff spot next season. He has had great recruits last couple seasons combined with the next few classes of incoming recruits. If not the top 4 finish and a playoff spot...

Bottom line is that Montgomery would have had Maine back on track faster then Gendron and that would not even been close at that either...he would have related better to the players also. But we will never know on any of this..............but if it would have been Gendron or Montgomery, who would you have had more FAITH behind the bench in the long run...?

Jimmy. I'll side with the guy that had a natural hat trick to give us first championship.

Montgomery was always a Head Coach in waiting, he has paid his dues going through the ranks of Coaching in all levels, and doing all by gaining attention that this man has a special way in he has a plan and he makes it work. Dallas will improve big time and they will be back in the Playoffs next season and a fun team to watch on the ice...he'll work them and they will play for him...
