Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

This thread has turned into a hockey Groundhog Day. Everybody saying the same thing...over and over and over and over. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

They keep losing over and over and over :) Until/if they turn it around that same old crap will continue. Anyone think they have a snowballs chance in hell of beating Lowell. Freshman goalie in a hostile building, defense that lets forwards behind them just about every game, no PP and your best players aren't playing that way. I can see them beating UNH but Lowell its the longest of long shots

After watching BC at unh last night I'm not at all sure of them winning over neighbors. Unh outplayed them a good part of the game and nearly won with 1:30 left when a shot glanced off the cross bar falling into the crease

Maine will have their hands full with everyone they play...especially on the road, and Alfond Arena is longer their Ace in the Hole...no one FEARS Maine.

I can see them getting up, playing well because of rivalry not that UNH isn't better or anything like that. I certainly wouldn't bet the house on it. I've seen enough sloppy play to know this team isn't very good and to be honest I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't win a another game until January rolls around

1. Going to Tsongas tonight to see this one.
2. The above is (sadly) pretty accurate. Add to the above 'No overall scoring punch'.
3. Lowell is tough. They lose Hellebuyck (and Carr and others). They replace Hellebuyck with this kid Kevin Boyle, a transfer from UMass. He's 9.11/2.57 after 16 games. 6-1-3 in the games he's tender of record. Very effective replacement between the pipes. And solid D. We do not have that. Last Saturday's loss to Harvard belongs to the back-up goalie Smith. Lowell is 2-2-1 in their last 5.
4. I give the Bears 20% chance of winning tonite. Romeo would have to be very hot and the scorers would have to show up to win this one. I pray for a road win. Every day...I pray for a road win.

Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

Since tying at UNH on March 9, 2013 the Black Bears are 1-19-3 on the road. The last two losses were under Tim; Maine is 1-17-3 on the road under Red. Before this most recent run, Maine was 11-13-5 on the road for the previous two seasons.

Lowell takes an early lead after the 1st. Maine answers and goes ahead after 2, and they protect the lead in the 3rd and hold on for the win. And no, I won't give you a score :p It's highly likely with all of this global warming weather we've seen lately that there's a good possibility of a polar vortex today in hell!

Fixed your post. :)

Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

I can see them giving Lowell a good game. whether it's enough for a win is hard to tell. But if they play the way they played the two games against BU, then they've got a shot. It's up to the players to decide if they want to make that type of effort, or do they just want to be over and done with this season.

Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

Ye I figure he isn't but the game is on TV tonight. I'd feel like an idiot if I didn't check and he played ;)
According to a post on face book he is playing, just saw it. Haven't seen a lineup sheet though

Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

Dan and Larry say he is, with Lacroix and Hayes. D mixed up, Hutton with Renouf, Hamilton and Schurhamer, Rutt and Riley.

Re: UMaine Hockey 2014-15: The Road from Alfond to Boston

Bazin's in his fourth season, is there any chance in hell that Maine is at their level by the time Red's in year four? Last year I'd have said sure looking at this wreck I say no. Feels hopeless.

Lowell is killing them on forecheck, just like Vermont did
