UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Brad Morrissey picked up another goal and assist today. Imagine he makes the final 23 Tri City(USHL) team and performs well.

Levi Kleiboer was also in the game and got the game winning goal in OT and a plus 2 rating for Sioux City(USHL).

Edit - Morrissey was playing second line center if I saw things correctly. So far that makes five Maine forwards playing center in USHL(Roy, Osadick, Morrissey, Sasson, Drobot).

Gould and Renwick each get a goal and Renwick tacks on a helper in first Hounds(SJHL) game. Gould snapped a wrister off from point through a screen off the post and in. Renwick dove and redirected a beautiful pass that came as a fake shot from point to the doorstep by Robinson.

Kawamura scored a goal...

Thiessen played fantastic to shutout his half of the game. Shut down three Maine recruits in that game... Osadick, Sasson, and Roy...

Langford gave up just 2 goals in 60 minutes for Chippewa(NAHL) to earn the W. He got an assist on a goal.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

There is a ton of hockey going on this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA. USHL is there for fall classic. For example there are 5 USHL games today and 3 of those games have Maine recruits playing. Hockeytv.com is covering all of those 3 games... though not for free. As a side note I wanted to mention two new coaches in USHL have Maine ties... Greg Moore is head coach of Chicago, and Gene Reilly is head coach of Des Moines. Moore was a Lisbon, ME native that was a captain and Hobey Baker finalist his senior year. Reilly was a coaching assistant for the 98/99 NCAA champ team and also interim head coach when Walsh was getting cancer treatment in California. Here is info on USHL fall classic:

https://www.ushl.com/news_article/show/953013

Brad Morrissey(RC - TriCity), Lyndon Breen(LC - Central Illinois), Harry Roy(RW - Cedar Rapids), Max Sasson(LC - Cedar Rapids), AJ Drobot(LC - Fargo), Levi Kleiboer(LD -Sioux City), Craig Needham(LW - Youngstown), and Matt Thiessen(G - Dubuque) all will be playing in this USHL fall classic.

Also going on at the same time is youth tournaments, so I imagine the Maine coaching staff will be heavily scouring the youth tournaments in Pittsburgh, PA this weekend.

Left shot forward, 5'10 170 lbs. He is described as undersized but gritty to make up for it, fast hands, plays quick, and up tempo, not afraid to battle on boards, goes to the net hard.... he is a 3.75/5. Seems like a solid recruit.

At Boston Advantage his coach was Joe Lovell, brother of former Black Bear, Tim Lovell.

Where Maine has so many forwards lined up I’m a little surprised by this one. Maine is cheap for him where he’s from MA so maybe he isn’t getting a ton of money. Could this commitment spell the end of Kawamura or Needham? I would think similar to last year Maine cuts ties with one or two recruits during the year.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Here is a nice article about Brady Gaudette with quotes from former Black Bear Tim Lovell...

Looks like he is a 200 foot player and good penalty killer too.

Oh I like the sound of this... "He is a tireless worker and does every skill, camp, combine and clinic we offer and we feel that this been a big part of his maturation as a person and player,” Tim Lovell

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

I was reading the latest article on Nuetral Zone about their coverage of a futures prospect camp in Blaine, Minnesota. And noticed a player(2002) by the name of Bret Link from Anchorage, Alaska. So I assume he son of former Black bear defenseman Tony Link because according to elite prospects Tony was coaching the team Bret was playing for. They gave Bret, along with some others, the highest mark(A), and said he is a right shot power forward that can put the puck in the net. Red Gendron was an assistant at Maine for Tony's junior and senior years. We have had great success with Alaska natives(Swayman being most recent example, Heisten brother, Tony, etc...), so I am hoping Gendron can close the deal on sons of former Blackbears. I see he went to the USA select 16 national development camp. Incidently that is the same camp where other right shot forward with UMaine ties also attended(James Tepper, son of Stephen Tepper & Jack Reimann nephew of Tommy Reimann). Tepper was in the same class as Tony Link, so he also was coached by then assistant Red Gendron. Tommy Reimann played one season with Ben Guite. However, he red shirted the 98/99 season and would have skated a lot with both Ben Guite and Alfie Michaud during the national championship season. I wonder if any of these three right shot 2002 born players with UMaine ties are being recruited by UMaine?
