UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

The part that gets me after reading it is he says "extremely" mobile. So when you here that about someone that is 6' 7" you get hopes up. You start to picture Pronger or something. How off was this article?
Pretty far off based on the fact he couldn't his first year and watching what little time he got this year.

Also, here is a page where two other recruits #23 Adam Dawe(Sioux Falls) and #18 Kyle Kawamura(Powell River) can each be viewed through hockey tv for free...

If you squint your eyes while watching Sioux Falls you can pretend you are watching the black bears.

Would have liked to watch it, couldn't get it to work.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Yea, maybe. I thought he (Meyers) had a lot of potential, and he's been on fire lately with 6 goals in his last 5 games with Fargo. He is going to a good program, and I think he'll get lots of ice time there. It will be interesting to watch.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Bhall44, which incoming players do you expect to be regulars in the lineup? Based on what I’ve seen, I expect JSS, Dawe, and Butala to be regular contributors. Anyone else?

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

For UMaine, new recruits for next season are pretty unlikely at this point. We are pretty well locked in, especially at D. If an obvious roster upgrade presents itself that is a different story. The one thing to keep an eye on is Michel and Holway. I left the Alfond last Saturday night and pretty much said goodbye to Michel. I think he will be offered a contract and sign, as he should. I'm a little on the fence about Holway, but ultimately I think Detroit sees enough room for improvement that at least another year at UMaine is in order. Becker is likely to graduate. So we need to replace Hamilton, Michel, Becker is this scenario.

Assessing the current situation Butala (Hamilton), Kleiboer (Michel), and Spicer (Becker). Palmer has one more year of junior eligibility and is a good player no doubt, i've watched him play a couple of times. Ultimately he doesn't represent an obvious roster upgrade and Maine doesn't have enough $ left to get him to Orono. He is likely to get more $ (a half to full ride) from another school . Palmer is your classic Norm Bazin type pickup (which more and more teams are doing now). Also Atlantic Hockey with their 18 scholarships now and many schools with new infrastructure projects completed/underway/planned should not be taken lightly going forward.

So, I was jumping around and got stuck on Pentincton vees vs. Trail smoke eaters. And have been watching defensemen and noticed 19 for Pentincton was playihg very well and a lot of minutes. It turns out he played as a freshmen in 12 games for BC but left part way into his sophmore season. He is a dual citizen that has played in USHL for undpt, US U17, US U18, BC, and now BCHL. I find it hard to believe he isn't signed up with anyone right now? Maybe I missed if he is. But Maine is lacking in this exact type of player it seems, an at home minute eater shut down type. His skating is great, he close gaps well, mechanically sound, physical but not over the edge leading to penalties. Thoughts on if he is a good fit at Maine BHall? Well, I think most teams would want a player like this. He didn't dress in a game at Alfond but I imagine he watched Alfond on a sellout night in a close battle.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

I have a bit of bad news to report... Thiessen finally got a goal scored against him in the playoffs. :D

He's been playing outstanding including pitching a couple shutouts.

Also, Renwick and Morrissey are playing outstanding in the playoffs. Seems the are at nearly 2 points per game in their playoff runs. They are inn the finals for triple a midget hockey in Saskatchewan. Hopefully they chose college over major junior.

And Drobot had 3 goals on the weekend. And Great Dane had a couple points Friday but only 22 penalty minutes last night. I haven't reviewed the game but I imagine he was fighting.

Another great goalie recruit for Alfie!

Thielsson and Beck,also good prospects.
I suppose they are looking at 2021 and beyond for Langford?

D men next hopefully!

Great news. Looks like he was the second goalie drafted in the 2017 USHL draft... round 3 pick 35 to Sioux Falls. Imagine this means he's a blue chipper.

Other 01 birth year recruits are projected starting in 20/21 according to BHalls recruiting roster chart.

Beck was released from his NAHL team. Not sure if this is an indication he is no longer coming to Maine???

Theissen is playing in a best of seven series in the MJHL semifinals. That series is tied at two(Steinbech vs. Winnipeg). Looks like he has a .941 save percentage and 1.51 gaa in the playoffs... http://www.steinbachpistons.ca/blues-score-late-again-at-home-to-tie-up-series

Looks like Maine's goaltending should be strong over the next several years.

Re: UMaine Black Bears Recruiting

Also, I noticed on hockey tv tonight there are two free games with Maine recruits in it. There is a free game with Sioux Falls where Adam Dawe will most likely be playing wearing #23. And a different free game will most likely(since Thiessen played 4 of 4 games this series) have Matt Thiessen playing wearing #35 in goal.

Btw, I would only advocate free content. I was happy with some casts(USHL). But very unhappy with the games in other areas. And lately games have been choppy... basically unwatchable. I paid for that service for two months, but will not anymore.
