UMaine Black Bears, 2nd verse same as the first 2016-2017

Funny, but Vermont seems to be able to recruit some decent players. Can score, play some solid defense, and a goaltender who can stop the puck. Anyway, at least that's what it looked like this weekend. Their location isn' t exactly the center of the world. State school, too. Why can they do, but all we do is whine about location and make excuses?

Let's see how well they can score and play defense against Boston College next week.

Sorry, but this is just a dumb comment. No matter how we play, it'll still be better than Maine. Plus, we played pretty decent against them a couple of weeks ago. Two ties on the road ain't bad!

LOL Burlington is head over heels a better quality of life than Orono in the middle of nowhere, have you ever been to Burlington, on the hill it's upscale Orono has 25% of it' population living below the poverty line. Also, if you were to rank the educational value of all the HE schools I would think Maine is dead last, so for all the kids that actually know they won't be going to the NHL going in you are better at VT, CT, UMASS or UMASS Lowell all ranked academically far and away ahead of Maine. So what is the hook at Maine unless you are recruiting farm boyz from Saskatchewan who are afraid of city life and like fat, ugly girls with big hips ...Go to Maine ! The days of Walsh and Cronin are over hockey players are coming form all over the US form Florida and CA now, if they are a top player with good grades Maine please. You think a kid who played in the top jr leagues at Little Ceasars in Metro Chicago or with the Florida Blades in Miami or Orange Country Ducks in CA is remotely interested in Orono for anything other than learning how to shoot deer, fly fish and smoke meats, you are crazy!

For many of them price isn't an object, nor is the product on the ice. Many of them will buy anyway. Remember what it looked like on TV when the donor seats were behind the team benches? Lots of empty seats, but they were sold. They don't come to games.

All of this is moot anyway because we don't know what the athletics department has in mind for the upcoming season.
Those seats behind the team bench are awful and you can't see with the players & Coaches getting up. They are not worth the price to watch a game...first 3 rows are not worth sitting in.

Hockey East is not returning to 3 games against all opponents. Press release a while back said 4 games against other HEA opponents, decided on previous years standings. So you have 24 in conference games, plus 8 OOCs
I read early in the year just after it was ANNOUNCED that Notre Dame was exiting Hockey East to join the Big10...that Hockey East was thinking about playing some of there series in 4 games versus a certain amount of teams and playing the others in 2 game series. I don't remember where I read it, but it was through Hockey East. Something like a 28 game schedule with 4 games x 4 teams and 2 games x 6 teams...and to rotate each year...until they expand back to 12 teams...which they said they were in NO HURRY to do...and that 11 teams could be the norm for a few years.

Boy now that's shows how smart you are...wow...breath air much? Vermont is such a hot bed..??? Use to be when St.Louis/Thomas and Perrin were there...but its no Paradise either. I guess Hazing still thrives at UVM. Good Luck versus BC next weekend...but don't book any trips to the NCAA's this year.

Bottom line is your still playing and "IF" your goaltending stays hot and you can win that first game @ BC, anything can happen...this series will come down to goaltending...2-1,3-2 games with a good chance of Overtime mixed in.

Yeah, you elitists and Bernie Sanders. And you are the people that say that you want to "help" the less fortunate. Vote for us. Right. When all you really do is laugh and look down your noses at them. "Fat, ugly girls with big hips." Really? That's a pretty disgusting comment.

15th in Pairwise with the win

And remember the Auto Bids hurt all teams not 14th and above, good luck but a tough task "IF" you don't continue to win and play in Boston. More or less need at least 3 wins to get in.

No argument here. However, those seats still sold. They just weren't occupied.

I used to have season tickets in those first three rows. We were at every game, as were our row mates. We just waited until the first whistle of the first period to move up 3-4 rows into whatever seat was empty. Of the four or five others I keep in touch with who sat near us, 2 no longer have season tickets, and the others all stopped paying donor prices and got better seats. I'd be shocked if those seats back there are bought and paid for at this point.

It's the playoffs. Anything can happen (just ask RIT). However, I expect to see Lowell vs Providence and a great BC vs BU game when I get to Boston in two weeks.

I would be too, since they are no longer donor seats. They are blue or white or whatever color the marketing department assigned them and vastly overpriced. I understand the attraction to certain fans - near the bench, can see the players up close, get your sign on TV etc, but for those of us who want to watch the game those seats aren't great.

Other schools are tracking this data and it wouldn't surprise me if Maine is too. Based on which tickets are scanned on game nights they know who attends regularly and who doesn't. If they wanted they could reasonably predict who would be willing to pay through the nose for donor seats and who actually cares enough to come to games and might be a little more concerned about price fluctuations and the quality of the product. Again, total speculation on my part. Maybe the school won't do that. Maybe the school doesn't have the resources to read that data. However, those data exist somewhere and could be analyzed for just such a purpose.

Yes indeed, I had a seat there the last year Walsh was alive...and you are correct, once the game was started or about 10 minutes into the 1st period...we would move up also to see the game.

The conundrum for the athletic department is they need both more money and more fan support. In a lot of ways these are mutually exclusive. It will be interesting to see what they reveal in May.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2nd verse same as the first 2016-2017

Larry Mahoney went back into the archives and found this gem. Vermont's goal tender (Stefanos Lekkas), became the first in Hockey East history to shut out Maine in a playoff game on Friday night.

Assume that's Hockey East only because Maine was shut out 1-0 by Denver in the '04 national title game
