UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018 season, is this Reds last stand?

I can't imagine incoming Freshman voting on captains, I also don't believe red was waiting for the players to be on campus. I'd guess coming back in shape was a factor in why Red waited until now to decide who captains are. Roster makes no sense. Keeping fans in the dark doesn't make sense at all

No kidding, plus if you do that you wind up not having any captains over the summer. We'll see if the no roster thing works but I'm very skeptical.

Apparently Gendron will determine who the captains will be without any input from players.

Maybe Gendron has something in store for all....but then we have been waiting for 4 years to see "whats in store for this team/program". No Roster mention or telling the public who will be his so called ON ICE LEADERS is very odd. Does not send a fan friendly or really any positive approach for this Program or the upcoming hockey season. Gendron's tenure @ Maine has not been very good...I would say and not marked in stone...but seems like this has to be a make or break season for RG and his Staff.

May be the program is going to have a big coming out party. Introduce the players, announce the Captains and then pizza and beer for everyone :)

Maine is in company. BU and BC have not announced their team rosters either.

Now if we just play like those guys we will be all set. I don't see it as that big a deal. It's just a break from tradition and mainuhs don't like that.

I think we're pretty easygoing. It's not like we have high expectations either.

No expectations at this point and that's an issue. No excitement and no news about players and team isn't helping that

One could make the argument that as a public institution spending our tax dollars, Maine has a responsibility to release information that private institutions like BC and BU do not.

Take Jack York off recruit list

I think not naming captains is very odd. I like the idea of the players knowing even before the summer who the captains are going to be. I don't know if it happens at Maine, but at some schools, the freshmen come in to take a summer course or two to help lighten the load and get them acclimated with their surroundings. I imagine the captains make some appearances to get to know the new kids and start setting the tone. I would think the soon to be captain/s would also appreciate having time to prepare. Maybe they already know they are going to be captain/s, it just hasn't been announced yet?

Information in the Belichick era...

Belichick and Jim Harbaugh think the Freedom of Information Act is a contradiction in terms.

In other news....Hey Ray, Happy Labor Day Weekend. Hope all is well with you and your clan.

They did, but they played a good game. Penalties and a missed PAT killed them.

If UNH is accurately rated at #13, Maine is certainly in the top-20. Hockey is nowhere near that, and I don't see it getting any closer anytime soon.

Football is and has been the flagship of men's sports at Maine for a long while now.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018 season, is this Reds last stand?

they haven't had a kicker worth spit in the programs history. Football is the flagship because that's what the ad wants.

Ditto for UNH.

True enough re: the kicking game, but give some credit to how Maine football has been relevant nationally for a while, even without a single 3-star recruit most years, let alone a 4 or a 5. The Cosgrove Era has enjoyed a lot of success with neglected prospects, while the hockey program has been an utter train-wreck in comparison.

I believe the kicker has a scholarship and has good credentials. Five-star nationally ranked kicker by Kohl's Kicking Camp ... Two-time special teams player of the year ... Three-time All-League selection ... First team All-Intelligencer kicker in 2016. Hopefully, he just had a bad game.
