Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

Jacksonville D has played well, whether the competition they have faced is similar to the Pats remains to be seen. Jimmy G putting up 40 on them makes me feel better about it.
I know they won those games but the offense has been flat, injuries have played a role. I doubt those injuries have magically healed. Now we have the bloody glove reincarnated :) If pats get early lead, bortles has to step up, that should be interesting

Actually Bortles doesn't have to step up. ;)

Jacksonville is a bit of a headscratcher... for example they lost to Tennessee twice. They lost to jets, who had 5 wins. They lost to 49ers, who had 6 wins. They lost to Arizona who was 0.500. Yet the beat up on Pittsburgh twice. Hopefully they take the ball first, can get a lead and force Bortles into highly likely pass situations and then tee off on him. Mariota looked bad in that role last week.

Denver showed you can win it all with no offense if your d is good and can force some turnovers. Pats have keep hold of the ball, Brady threw some ints in the last 6 games and with his hand situation, who knows how that works out?

Who knows. My guess is you won't know the difference between Brady today and any other day. But for sure anyone can win with a good defense, just like first pats team to win Superbowl. But it is just great to see your team still playing. I'm not taking it for granted, remember the terrible days of late 80s into early 90s. :)

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

Maine plays hard but without swayman playing well they can't beat anyone. Every goalie looks like Hasek, Roy, etc. Umile got the best of Red one last time. Go read the UNH thread and see what they think of their team and coach umile. It's depressing that Maine still can't beat them.

Maine can't beat UNH in football either. Umile knows how to coach defense against an attacking Maine team. Maine plays hard and grinds it out, but as others have said they have no one in the slot for rebounds or passes.

I don't understand the no one in slot thing. Been like that for a long time, even with Tim. They can control puck on the outside, get a lane, a shot, but no one home for the rebound.

Was I blind or were all the goals last night scored at the net front either a redirect or off a rebound?

I think people are complaining about not enough set up in the high slot. I think tactically it made sense dedicating bodies down low in order to force Unh to go 180 feet to score. I saw far fewer odd man rushes of the dangerous variety from Unh last night. I think that is the problem, if you have all three forwards low for puck possession, not as many times will you connect on one touches to the high slot.

Speaking of Tim, Kimball Union is currently 17-4-1 and won the Flood - Marr Holiday Tournament in Boston last month. Should be in the running once again for the Elite Eight Championship at the end of regular season.

BDN: Recap of last night's game

Pearson had snapped the deadlock at the 8:47 mark after Eduards Tralmaks muscled his way with the puck to the front of the UNH net. The puck eventually wound up on the stick of Rob Michel in the left corner, and he quickly threw the puck to the uncovered Pearson in the low slot.

Smith tied it when he pounced on the rebound of Brady Keeper’s point shot and flipped a five-footer past Tirone.

But Pieper knotted things up by jamming a Nolan Vesey rebound behind Tirone from the edge of the crease.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

Did anyone notice that this had to be one of UNH's worst teams to play @ Alfond in the last 20 years? AND Maine couldn't even muster a win @ home. One player for Maine this weekend {Hamilton} was more into chirping after the plays and pushing and shoving and spending time in the BOX then playing his position.

Pretty hard to score behind the net

Not true. It only seems like it. ;) In January 2015 Maine defeated UNH at Alfond Arena 6-4 with Tirone in goal.
