Too many men, then a softy by Swayman, I think he wants that rebound back.

A deflating end to the game. Oh well, used to it by now.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Too Many Men on the ice penalty....???? Again and again...this season/last season/season before that...pretty much all through Gendron tenure behind the bench...not even funny...and while your on a 5 minute Major penalty power-play......this was there game to win and they let penalty's finally take the toll.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Penalties cost Maine this game once again. It happens over and over and over. In addition, you have two captains sitting beside each other in the penalty box at one point in the game. Great leadership. Apparently, Gendron doesn't think it's a problem as they have had multiple too many men on the ice and stupid penalties all season long. Really pathetic.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

13 consecutive losses to a single opponent ties the school record (BU, 1982-1986). Providence should set the record tomorrow. Congrats Friars.
0-16-1 is already a team record for winless streak.
Maine has not defeated Providence in the Red Gendron era.

The last time Maine defeated Providence the goals were scored by Adam Shemansky, Matt Mangene and Klas Leidermark. Dan Sullivan was the winning goaltender.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Maine women bringing back some excitement back...B-Ball Team heading to the NCAA's and even though there season is done the Women's Hockey Team was a treat to watch during the season and in the Playoff series versus BU, game #3 was one for the ages....good Luck to the B-Ball Team. Great job girls..!

Amy Vachon's "motion-offense" is better than Bobby Knight's, when the ladies settle-down and execute it. She's going to be in great demand very soon for a lucrative job somewhere else, but I do hope she decides to stick around.

(And, as to the hockey game, the result was completely predictable, aside from the fact that Maine probably should have lost by 3 goals.)

Same old, same old... No Red-extension, for the love of God, please.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Gendron needs to lay down the law regarding stupid penalties. Taking a penalty behind the play, sticking a glove in an opponent's face, roughing penalties, etc. Too many men on the ice on a power play? Reminds me a bit of the Joey Diamond years.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

You guys are being way too generous. The too many men penalty was only about 10% of the problem in the last seven minutes. I'm not sure I've ever seen a more embarrassing playoff performance. Maine completely gave up. They couldn't even get the puck in Providence's end.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

........... Reminds me a bit of the Joey Diamond years.

Joey was an isolated player who had no control of his actions. In this instance we are talking about a whole team and it's lack of discipline.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

I didn’t get to see any of the game, and I was out of range of 103.9 when there was about 10 minutes left in the third. If they truly gave up and dropped the ball as hard as you all are saying in the third period of a tied playoff game against a team they still haven’t managed to beat since before Barack Obama was re-elected President, that’s a serious problem and it sounds pathetic.

There is a reason for stupid or as they say ill advised penalty's....look right behind the Bench....this is something that has happened over and over for 5 years....no sugar coating it. But this was Maine's game to win, I don't really think this team quit last night....they fell into there own hole and PC cashed in...plus credit the play of Hayden Hawkey....he kept them in time and again.

This imo only but I don't think money is what motivates Vachon, just her love for the Team/Program/State...good chance she's a Maine Head Coach for a long time.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Fireable offense

I checked box scores, Maine had 5( 6 including last night )too many men calls this season. opponents had 2. I remember Walshy blaming himself after every game he had one and I doubt there were 5 in a season but I'm too lazy to look.

I didn't see Maine quit until the too many call and then I do believe that call got into their heads. Too bad, they weren't awful as far as playing with PC was concerned. Stupid penalties did them in.

I see Swayman getting pulled tonight, Maine gets crushed.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Had to listen to game but it sounded like a good game down to the stupid penalty. A winnable game and tough loss. Good job by Providence to close it out and stick with it.

It highlights Reds inability to develop improved discipline in the players through the season. Not just with penalties but with strategies, game plan and the details, things they practice all season long on. Providence did well in these aspects. Skill wise it sounded like not as much a factor as discipline in the win or loss.

The results of the game are very telling as to the difference in coaching.

Yet Red has a good shot at coach of the year in HE. It's frustrating to watch.

I went to the game. Great atmosphere (about 3400 fans), most fans for a women's America East championship game since 1998. Maine won it in the 3rd quarter. I kept waiting for Hartford to come back late as they had done repeatedly in the playoffs. Not this time. Maine executed well and played good defense. Very nice to see Parise Rossignol develop and have an outstanding season. She was selected to the all tournament team and received another student athlete award after the game.

My selection is either Cavanaugh or Madigan. Northeastern went from 8th to 2nd and Connecticut from 9th to 5th. NU is probably in the NCAA tournament without winning Hockey East. While no question Maine has improved, there is no way I select Gendron. That's just my opinion.

AND lets hope so, that he does not garner that Award....just what a NEW AD would pin a 2 year extension on and a winning record. Look at this team, what has changed..? Same old same old defense that is a liability, goal scoring that is not clutch and no snipers or players that can finish the play. Penalty's that usual come back to bite this team....the record has improved because the goaltending situation is a PLUS now and not a major weak spot.
