Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Why would Mundinger start.? Do you think he is that good? If so why does maine have 2 goalies coming in, one next year, one the year after
WHY NOT...maybe light a fire under the team that they have to perform instead of under performing in front of there goaltenders....I am on for McGovern being the #1 man in net, don't see Morris as anything more then a Backup and Mundinger....well I have to say again WHY NOT, is this team going any where's with any of the three and yes they are bringing in other goaltenders....maybe because they are clueless in RECRUITING a top flight goaltender...seems many/many teams across the College Hockey landscape seems to be bringing in good Freshman goaltenders, BC/BU/Vermont and on and on.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

I scratch my head over how they generally seem to play well in the first period then come out flat in the second and let the other team dominate and score goals. Seems this happened most games this year. I wonder if Reds strategy and style is so transparent that the other team adjusts at the period break, and then Red can't adjust mid period. I don't know very frustrating.

I think I'm losing support for Red. Is it too early to call for his resignation? If they can get a win tonight then I'd say the coaches did the right things to adjust. But who's in goal tonight??

Were you watching when Timmy was coach? It literally happened every game. In most games you're going to see both teams have periods on top but the key is to make that period of dominance count for something. There have been too many times when Maine hasn't and its cost them.

John Wooden had a saying that the team that gets off the bus with more talent wins 90% of the time. That is basically what we've seen this year with the exception of Quinnipiac and Colgate. Maine needs one more good class to get us back to where we would like. I'd suggest that recruiting is a lot more important than in game coaching and I'm very encouraged by who we have seen commit over the past six months and how good this year's freshmen class has been.

Yes the frosh recruits are so amazing they literally allowed Vermint to double its goals for in league play in a single game

Oh yes watched all of the whitehead years. Just like watching atrain wreck in slow motion.
I dont have a problem at all with the kids and the recruits look promising, been a positive for sure. There are holes to fill certainly and many development potential, is where im concerned.

What's frustrating to me is being able to recall how well Walsh would have this freshman class playing right about now versus what we see developmentally from Whitehead and Gendron. I know Walshy isnt walking through that door but seems like lot of other coaches getting more from the players than we've seen certainly from whitehead and starting to see from Gendron. As if the kids get little out of practice all week long.

Out of curiosity what do you think they should be doing better? I don't necessarily disagree but I think its a little tricky comparing today to when Shawn was coaching where there is so much more video available.

Maine scored but lost the replay...looks like Fossier has a really bad injury.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Isn't he playing?

Byron missed a wide open net, no goalie in the crease

I haven't seen him since he went off.

How he missed that I will never know. Vesey had a good chance at the end of the period and never got a shot off. Very frustrating.

Unreal, Robbins with a slapper, but under review, probably interference on goalie by maine. It counts

I think some is on ice coaching but even more than that the way each player is handled. Walsh was very good at getting into the kids heads and getting the most out of each. Whitehead and to some degree Gendron not as good. For instance Vesey, I think would have really developed. Maybe though most of that could be Standbrooks effect.

Maine concedes then misses on a 2 on 0. Most frustrating game of the season by far. Rob was all out to sea on the goal.

Rob was the only reason they were in the game. First half of the game was all vermont.

The two goals he gave up were brutal though. He should have gotten an assist for the first and I'm not sure what the hell happened on the second.

Maine was up 2-0 after 2 periods but allow the Catamounts to tie it in the third. Vermont clearly the better team and they take 3 points on the weekend. Without McGovern having a good game Maine would have lost this one by at least two goals.

Pretty frustrating to think Vermont was clearly the better team(and they were). Maine looked slow to the puck all game, Pucks bounced over their sticks all game long. Vesey had several chances, Byron missed a wide open net(literally wide open, no goalie in crease). Vermont will probably get home ice in first round of HE playoffs but they aren't world beaters. Both Goalies played well
