Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Anyone know where to find the post game coach interviews?
A few years ago the campus radio station posted some of the home game ones, but seemed to have lost interest last year.

Any game ive ever been to at the portland rink has lousy atmosphere, its just that place. Or so it seems. Not much of a home ice advantage.

Lousy audio and I framed the back of Nate Fournier's head beautifully but here it is

I can still be patient with this team only because of so many freshman being relied on. But I don't understand the breakaway after breakaway last night. My seat didn't give me a good look at positioning but something was not good out there all night. Granted bc is quick and we did not play any kind of trap but maybe we will need to tonight to eliminate those. 2 on 1 and 3 on 1 all night it seemed like

It wasn't fair of Gravelhead and Ossifer Benny to allow Boston College to skate 10 players at a time last night.

Or were they just that fast?

For this team at times the TRAP would be the idea way to go...BUT you can forget that under RG, he won't have any of that type of play. Nope. He's stubborn and its his way/plan and no matter what. Team defense is weak on the back end and they get ripped apart when other teams use there speed...especially at times breaking through the middle. Its been a weak point before and is again this season.

I tend to agree with you. Based on past games he has refused to change his game plan. If he recognizes the discrepancies in matchups he chooses to ignore them and continue to play his style of play. We'll see what happens tonight.

As I sit having a beer in the Old Port after this arse kicking, I am totally discouraged. I can't list anything this team did well tonight. I will not list all the things they didn't do. Morris was horrible. As I said last week, he is a journeyman Div 3 goalie. Red pulled him at 5-1. I am taking a break from this nonsense of a D1 hockey team.
They were just awful and what a disappointment to watch that chit show last night. Red obviously can't recruit top end talent and I see this team only winning 10 to 12 games this year. Not sure what the AD saw in Red to give him a 2 year extension on his current contract but it is clear to me Red isn't the man to right the ship.

Just heard on pregame Rob is starting goalie. Evidently not hurt, why Morris played last couple games is a mystery.

Maine was competitive at BC last year, just didn't have much talent. Now get swept by a BC team that lost a ton of talent...and at home. I don't know, playing hard is great but i just don't see a big difference for maine this year. Good luck rest of the way.

Maine played tough but they still lost so whoopee freakin doo

Maine was disciplined in the 2nd and 3rd period after a terrible 1st period. Credit Maine for battling back, but BC also had defensive lapses and seemed to lose their focus. In the closing minutes of the game BC rose to the occasion when it mattered. BC has a much better team.

There isnt much difference, the idea is to win, maine didnt. Been like this for years. You can look at the game and see good things but in the end its the same old story.

Rob was good, Dane Gibson was good. Maine had 1 maybe 2 lines who could keep up. Being bigger doesn't do you much good if you can't keep up. After winning 8 games last year I guess it was to be expected.

............ Being bigger doesn't do you much good if you can't keep up........

Gendron is obsessed with size. Yes, size is good. But if size doesn't have some skill and speed to go with it it's somewhat useless. Like J.D. said, BC lost a lot of talent from last year's team and they can still perform at a high level.

And they didn't use their size advantage near enough, probably because of the potential for penalties, or they couldn't catch BC, not a very physical game. They did gain a few advantages with more physical play.

I really like Holway, he let a few players get around him but he'll figure it out. Coming out of D on offense he has very good vision and makes nice passes to set things up. He set up the Gibson goal.

The coaches decision to play Morris last week and Friday is really baffling, could be just plainly bad coaching decisions. Hopefully that is not a true reflection. If Red would once in a while provide some simple insight as to what is going on, the fan base would appreciate that. Rob is getting better in positioning himself and controlling rebounds, and the team seems to play much better in front of him. In front of Morris every one plays defense, they end up running all over, and they struggle to get the puck out of the D zone.

Not sure why Rob didn't play those 2 games. I can see giving him a night off but why would you in Portland when he played so well there last year against UND? Discipline issue? Seems if it was that he wouldn't have made the trip to Portland(someone said he was in street clothes in the arena). May have been medical issue? D clears pucks better for Rob, he probably puts rebounds in a better spot.

Still not panicking. 3-5-2 isn't bad when you consider this time last year the team was 0-7-3. 0-9-3 before the first win of the season.

I'd like to see 5 wins before December, 2-3-0 is not out of the realm of possibility. Maybe steal one from Lowell at the Alfond, or get one or two in Vermont, or beat Brown in Portland. If Maine is 5-8-2 and facing only December against UNH (3) and AIC (2), being .500 at the New Year is in reach.
