Come on? Creech favors football over all other sports and has shown that with creating the Cosgrove position. Look to where the bulk of the recent commitment by the Alfond family is going.

To be fair, football is the only high(er)-profile Maine program that is nationally relevant...

FYI, no band tomorrow in Portland. Have fun at the morgue tomorrow night, for those who will be there.

Boo! Any explanation why? A college hockey game just isn't the same without the band.

News just said 4500 tickets sold. Certainly not full

I just logged onto Ticketmaster and 9 zones are sold out and only singles remain in all zones along the sides. The only multiples that remain are behind the nets and high up in the corners.

4,500 tix sold sounds pretty good to me....should have a pretty good walk-up as well. Alfond actually sells ($$$) how many tix?.......3K on a good night?

I wonder how many have been sold versus given away. Hopefully it's a decent crowd but going to be hard to have much atmosphere without the band. I wish I was going but have other commitments.

Class conflict with Marching Band which needs the rehearsal before gameday on Saturday. Seperate ensembles, but two-thirds of the group is enrolled in both athletic bands. It's logistically unfeasible.

That sucks. You guys are awesome.

Many Maine hockey fans on this forum have become chronic whiners. Thankfully, they are not a majority of Maine fans right now.....most of us are pretty happy with the overall direction of the UM athletic program under Creech. It's lightyears ahead of where they were in the dark days of the Nero/James regimes.......

Explain to us why its better now? I have no dealings with ADs office so I'm curious why its so much better. You can leave James out of it we all know what he did.
I'm curious as well. Simple question I thought.

They lowered season ticket prices to a reasonable level and stream games for free. The quality of the production is actually halfway decent now and includes fancy features such as replays. They're far from perfect but certainly moving in the right direction. I have no idea if they treat football better or worse and quite frankly could care less.

No video from Portland. Audio and Live Stats only. Video, Audio and Live Stats on Saturday.

Sat. game is on TV -- WVII/WFVX, WPME AND FOX COLLEGE SPORTS. It'll be one of those loong games, lots of TV time outs!!!

Still tickets left for Saturday night. Looks to be some singles scattered around and most f the top rows on the upper sides.
It should sell out. Would like to go, but can't, as home games against BC are always a good atmosphere and the team will have an extra jump in them being home.

Thought it was fair question also. Been all week thinking of watershed/positives the recent AD office has done for hockey.
They did extend Reds contract - but don't know yet if this is good or bad.

I do see the athletics department taking steps and overall there is a more positive vibe flowing from Memorial Gym these days. Is that anecdotal? Yep. YMMV. I know that under previous regimes emails would go without a response. Creech and his staff are superior in that regard. I routinely have Facebook and Twitter conversations with people in Orono. If I have questions or concerns, they get addressed. The answer is not always what I want to hear, but at least I know my voice was heard. Previously one had the feeling they were shouting at a brick wall. The ticket prices and the parking issue for hockey are clear indications to me that someone is listening. Just as important, they are caring what is being said and are taking steps to give us satisfactory solutions.

To me, football remains a major financial drain on the university as a whole and the athletics department in particular. It isn't just in money wasted in that vast black hole, it is that the money could have been spent on better things. Facebook reminded me that it has been a year since I wrote my screed imploring the university to drop football. I know it will never happen. The university labors under a belief that the football program drives donations (although there is NO data that show that to be the case). Too many influential people live for those 5 or 6 Saturdays every fall when they gather to watch the boys fling the pigskin around Alumni Field. I also know Creech did not come to Maine to eliminate football. Were he to do so the academics might hail him as a visionary, but he would be black listed from ever getting another AD job anywhere in the country. I get all those things. I also see a huge financial crisis looming in 2020 and the university lacking a plan on how to fix it. If anyone is deluding themselves into thinking this is yet another burden to be shouldered by the students they have a frightening day of reckoning coming. My nephew will be entering college in 2020 (phuck that makes me feel old) and he has plenty of options where the institution won't place an undue financial hardship on him before he even sets foot on campus.

I do not pretend to know what Creech has in mind for his future. I hope this is just the beginning of a long stay at Maine. I want a leader who has a 10-year plan and will stay and see it through to fruition, not leave in year five and let someone else come in with their own 10-year plan which they will also not see through. We have suffered through that at Maine in too many leadership positions for far too long. Dr. Hunter, Creech and others in the administration have a chance to bring some much-needed stability to the school. I like what I have seen so far. I want to see more of it and for a longer period of time.

They lowered season ticket prices to a reasonable level........

I had been a season ticket holder since 1977. My seat was in first row on a bench seat with no back. Not upgraded with recent renovation. My tickets did not drop in price. I sent Creech an email explaining my loyalty and my reason for no longer purchasing season tickets. No reply. Athletic department demonstrated to me how much they appreciate fan loyalty and support of their programs.

That's disappointing.
