UMaine '26-'27: The Bridge On the River Stillwater

BU will be tough.....but Maine has a better mindset to be competitive with them this time around. Not setting myself up with expectations....just want them to compete and get at least 1 stellar effort in net.

So far in HE seems like....

Providence
BU

Merrimack
Maine
UMass
Northeastern
UConn

BC
UNH
Vermont
UMass-Lowell

Great win tonight. Light work for Boija and he's rewarded with the shutty. Nice to see them explode for 2 goals in 33 seconds in the third. Dyck was rock solid for Colgate and without him we're probably looking at two absolute blowouts.

Some fun facts about this weekend:
This is the first sweep of Colgate in the Barr era. (and our first sweep of the Raiders since 83-84, 7-4 and 6-2 on 12/2 and 12/3 of '83 at the Alfond... every matchup since has either been a split or a one-off)

This is the first weekend of back-to-back shutouts by different goalies at Maine (in the same weekend) since Jimmy Howard and Frank Doyle blanked Mercyhurst on Nov. 1/2, 2002. (big assist to PA announcer Stax for that one)

This was the first shutout sweep at home since 1-2 November, 2024 vs Merrimack. This was the first shutout sweep of a non-conference opponent since 1-2 November, 2002 vs Mercyhurst. That team continued the streak the next weekend with a 1-0 shutout of UMass before finally surrendering a goal in an 8-2 win at Northeastern.

Was at some friends' tonight, so I didnt start watching the game until about 1 AM on the ESPN+ replay.

The first period I felt was iffy, but after that they seemed to settle in and take firm control of the game. I did end up skipping the very end since I need to go to sleep, but it really did seem to have the sense that 'Gate was never going to score or tie it up. Hard to complain in any way about back-to-back 3-0 wins.

Maine has never won at Agganis Arena in the Ben Barr era, the only away venue in the conference they have not won at in his tenure behind the bench. Their last win (or even tie, for that matter) against the Terriers away from Orono came on November 17, 2018, a 3-1 victory. They have since lost nine straight games in Boston, eight of those at Agganis and one at the Garden in the 2024 Hockey East Tournament. I think that changes this weekend, with at least one game going Maine's way.

Not going to get too excited about sweeping a 0 for the season team, on the other hand good weekend for Maine. Speculating I have a feeling it would have been a split last season so forward progress is always good. I feel sorry for Colgates goalie, he played great Saturday night. Klimpke has some get and go. Lipinski won some faceoffs. Boija did well and I wonder if the goalies have some competition going? Still not convinced on the offensive prowess of this team but the Defense looks really good. On to BU

Listening to Barr’s postgame presser is night and day from last year. He loves this team and I’m with him since they’re easy to root for. These guys have been flying around to start the season. There may be limitations given the lack of high end scorers but these guys should be in every game they play.

BU will be a very tough test but these guys should be ready.

They limit time and space, should give them a chance in Boston if they stay out of the box
