UMaine '26-'27: The Bridge On the River Stillwater

The Mildcats sweep Colgate in New York. Anything less than a sweep at home next weekend will be disappointing.

Hockey Least follows up last night with an impressive 0-3 against the NCHC tonight. By not playing this weekend Maine moved from #11 to #6 in the NPI.

Sad to hear. I'll always remember the epic nights at Boston Garden when the Big Four contested the Championship. In '99 when you guys played UNH for the crown and suddenly an "E-A-G-L-E-S" chant erupted around the building loud enough that it shook the seats. Good memories. Well...mostly good. ;)
Colgate is not good this year. Anything less than a beat down both nights when they made UNH look competent after Quinippiac destroyed them is all you need to know.

No front page story on Goblackbears.com about football team losing once again?
Yeah, this is a lost season for football, but Maine did everything but win. (Check out the box score.) The three fumbles-lost would have killed anyone.

Football isn't going away to make room for D-1men's/womens' ping-pong, right?

Hockey and football are the only two sports that have been somewhat relevant for a long time now.

football is nowhere near relevant and hasnt been for a long time.

Yeah, THAT will help the bottom-line, for sure!
Yes, it would, football loses 4m+ per year. UVM won a natty in soccer spending 2m, UNH spend 1.3m, UMass spends 1m, URI spends 1.1m. Losing 2m a year on a nationally competitive team seems better than losing 4m a year on a 1-6 minor league football team that can only beat winless Towson.

Burying your head in the sand about a D1 minor league team that has been average at best throughout it's history (except for one miracle year where the head coach immediately fled to be a position coach on a real D1 team) doesn't change the facts that Maine loses multi-millions a year on football.

Ya know, the constant references to UVM finding an acorn are really getting old.

Vermont had, what? one SOG during the entire fucking game, during a shootout, and that was yet another example of the abject idiocy of soccer rules.

Nobody gave a shit outside of Burlington, if anyone did even there.

Find another argument. That one holds no water, because American people prefer watching football vs. watching a bunch of little boys flopping around like beached minnows whenever someone gives them a dirty look.

As irrelevant as it is, football isn't going anywhere. We will continue throwing money into the Black Hole.

The women's basketball team is a relevant mid-major, makes the national tournament half the time and stands a reasonable chance of a first-round upset every few years.

Men's hockey is the only sport that has a realistic chance to compete nationally on a regular basis.

With nil Maine has very little chance to compete nationally in any sport. Nil has just started, duke gave cooper Flagg millions, that’s never happening in Orono.

Further sour grapes for football, just look at whats getting built for 90mil at the end of the football stadium. Yeah is a bball court but its also there to support football. Box seats , locker rooms and facilities for football included.
The cash cow hockey program got 50 mil and not much of that was inside the rink that fans use.

Yeah, I should probably go shop for a case Kleenex...

Having said that, Justin was Maine's best player last year, and I bear him no ill-will. He played hard on both ends of the ice. Guessing that he took to the NIL bucks, and I can't say that I blame him for it.

But, it's fun to hate PU State, not matter who's on the roster.
Poirier left for way more money in what is considered a stronger conference right now. It's an unfortunate but reasonable decision.

Miguel Marques left for a lesser program within the conference that doesn't have home games this year. That one rubs me the wrong way.
