UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

There is a vast difference between being a choir boy and throwing your stick in frustration. Fans may not appreciate that distinction but someone wearing a letter on their chest should.
To be fair, I’m watching on tv so I didn’t see what actually happened other than the commentators saying he threw his stick. I’d imagine the frustration was the Komarov penalty and Maine not having a true powerplay all night. I like a captain with some fire and one that will raise hell when his boys have been screwed.

Lots to say about this year and what’s been happening in close out situations. Maine has been horrible in the 3rd alot

Having said that, two huge factors have gone against Maine: when have they had great goal tending or stole a game? They’ve only had sporadic above average play in the net intermittently. And what’s the percentage of games where the other team had more PPs than Maine? 80? 90? How many breaks have they got from officials?

Cacophony of errors and blame to go around but seems like they have taken fire from all sides.

Maine has had a powerplay edge in 11 games, 16 games where the other team had more, and 7 games where they were even.

Goaltending should be priority #1 for next season. Get one of the Alfonds on the horn and beg them to buy a goaltender in the portal.....it'll only cost them about 1 day of interest on their holdings.

Definitely need to get rid of a few players.....and Barr & Co. need to take a look in the mirror....this season was probably some of the worst coaching I've seen from ANY Maine hockey coach. Barr is 40-something now.....act like it and be a LEADER.

Yes but something happened during the empty net play that caused them to lose their minds. What was it?
Because when they had the extra attacker on and they were in the offensive zone the officials called a penalty on Someone for interference. Might have been Komarov?

That essentially killed any momentum the had going.

Then they got scored on. I’m sure the whole team, Barr, etc… we’re pissed. I even saw O’Connor hollering at the ref.

I like sore losers so I have no problem with them taking the penalty. Fuck those refs.

They make Rouillard seem like a good alternative.

But it wasn’t why they lost the game.

After all, we suffered through Rouillird all season. So if any team is used to shit officiating it is Maine.

They lost because Vermont trapped early the nuetral zone and Maine just can’t bring themselves to dump and then chase and outwork them on the boards. Maine has it in their head they have to carry the puck in with no exceptions. They have it in their head that the don’t have to work hard because they have SO much talent. They can’t adjust to the system played against them.

But once Vermont got the 2 goal lead that style just slowly but surely gets the job done most of the time.

Maine has been surprised by some teams trapping them(UNH for example)

Ok. You sound sure so I didn’t go crazy with checking, but colgatex2, Quinnipiac, UMass and UVM losses. Then a stretch from Lindenwood game 1 (12/13) until 3rd game vs BU (2/6) where 8 games Maine didn’t have more power plays.

Seemed more than 32% of games getting more PPs for all the wrong reasons.

Ok this is just how this team is. Is it possible for them to win 4, 5, or maybe even 6 games in a row? Yup! Will they make it past Saturday? Not sure!! But personally I think there are better odds that they go further riding a loss than a 6 game streak.

This was about as rebuilding of a yr as you can have. And Maine definitely isn't the only program that underperformed this year. But ya, everyone’s a critic, sure, but from the outside looking in, the coaching really doesn’t look great, and that’s where the questions should be

Indisputably though, they brought Maine back, and quickly

Yes but something happened on that specific play that set them off. I know the refs weren’t good and the call on Komarov felt soft. But something specific happened on that play that caused Djurasevic to lose his mind and get tossed.

Would anyone else agree that this Maine team might work-less-hard-because-they-believe-they’re-more-talented (relative to other teams) than any other Maine team ever?

Idk who/what it is, just that it’s Barr’s job to fix it. But some combination on the coaching side, is sometimes bringing out the worst in players. And if the program can’t figure it out, I bet the players definitely all have consensus on what/who the problem is
