UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Furthermore, I don't buy the rhetoric being pushed that Swayman (or any other player for that matter aside from maybe Thompson with the MAGA hat) attending the Trump Whitehouse and SOTU is in any way political, or implies he or they support MAGA, ICE, deportation, (insert Trump policy here). They are being honored and celebrated for accomplishing something which hasn't been done in 46 years

There’s certainly nothing wrong on paper with a gold medal winning Olympic team accepting the invitation to visit the White House by the sitting President. In a vacuum that would be pretty innocuous and standard procedure. But when you take the entire chain of events….the locker room fiasco with Kash Patel, the conference call with Trump demeaning the women’s team and the overriding storylines swirling around the Trump Administration (ICE, Epstein, etc)…..it was disappointing that they accepted….and even more disappointing how some (but not all) are responding to the criticism.

Without talking about anything else Taco is accused of doing just look at what he is doing to the State of hockey, AKA Minnesota. No one should support that. Those guys accomplished a goal of winning the gold but Taco and his band of scumbags had nothing to do with it and shouldn't be included in any celebration

I must have missed the MAGA hat, Thompson? Personally, if in their position, I would put political beliefs aside and simply take the opportunity for what it is. A chance to visit the Whitehouse and be celebrated for a tremendous achievement. Whether it be Biden or Trump, Democrat or Republican, any athlete should be proud of the invitation and accolades and should be able to participate without fear of ridicule or criticism from those who are in no position to criticize or judge. It should have been viewed as an opportunity to put politics aside show everyone that this is about the incredible pride and achievement of winning a gold medal. It's funny seeing all the individuals coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden being hypercritical when not a single one of them posted congratulations to the women's team when they won, but now are all of a sudden the greatest advocates. Just my .02. Here for the "Trump made it political" backlash.
These are far from normal times started by you know who.
If you dont take a stand your complicit.
Its very sad really that we are where we are.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I would almost guarantee that if Trump made the same comment during the women's celebration, it would have been met with the same response. It was a joke, it was received as such in the heat of the moment IMO. The only people making it out to be something it wasn't are those who continue to push that rhetoric. Could it have been said differently, or even omitted at all, sure, but I've seen recent quotes from women's player(s) implying it was blown out of proportion. The majority of Americans aren't looking for nuances of political alignment in every comment or statement made in public.

This coming from someone who certainly doesn't agree with all Trump policies including current ICE practices mentioned above, but the thought that those comments are somehow politically motivated and insinuating that a Whitehouse visitation reflects poorly on USA Hockey or implies support for the sitting President and all his policies by those who would hardly be qualified to wash Swayman's jockstrap, let alone pass judgment on his choice to either partake or not is asinine IMO. Has anyone actually spoken to anyone on the women's team to see how they felt or is everyone just playing victim on their behalf?

I don't agree with Trump's militarization of ICE by any means, however, I also don't agree with exposing the fraud happening in those states. However, stating that "Taco and his band of scumbags had nothing to do with it and shouldn't be included in any celebration" is kind of silly considering the age old practice of sports teams visiting the Whitehouse and government officials attending the Olympics... Do I agree with Kash "piggybacking" a fake business work trip with an Olympic visit, not really, would it have been more appropriate for someone else in the Admin to be there than the FBI director, probably but again, to attempt to diminish the victory and celebratory actions based on inclusion of "Taco" and/or any of his "band of scumbags" is crazy talk. I would expect any sitting President and cabinet regardless of political affiliation to be just as ecstatic and proud of that hockey team as the current admin appears to be.

All that aside, I respect all of you here, and all of your opinions and you are certainly entitled to them. Enough of politics, and back to the mediocrity that is 2025/2026 Blackbear Hockey.

My oldest friend, who I met at Corbett Hall before he actually flunked-out of Maine (yes, that's possible lol) lives near MSP, and his oldest daughter lives a block away from where the ICE thug murdered a woman in cold blood, and that asshole is apparently going to get away with it. My god-daughter was afraid to take her own little girls outside for weeks. Where did America go?

This isn't about frivolous differences in political opinions, this is about the very existence of our country, and I don't give a flying fuck about offending anyone by saying that.

Nothing else matters very much to me these days, but I did watch the MC weekend, and I have no complaints. This team is just a bit snake-bit, considering the entire season.
