UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Overall, pretty good period imo. They did well, especially early on, from preventing the Terriers from getting much into the front of the net. On the less ideal end, I saw Russell make a couple lazy drop passes to nobody that ended up as turnovers, including leading to the breakaway. I really liked the first PP even tho they didn't score, but the second wasnt as good. The puck also seemed to be hopping a lot on the ice.

Yes, Russell doesn’t see that by just getting pucks deep it helps Maine because BU doesn’t appear to know what to do in their own end. Instead he’s over handling it and coming out high and turning it over at the blueline. If BU is giving Maine the boards and the cycle Maine should take it. Coach should be telling them this. That will wear on BU and make goals if they just keep cycling, working, getting pucks to the net in traffic. The turnovers by trying to over finesse things appear to play into BU’s strength as their guys are dangerous once they get into Maine zone with even a little time and space. This is a game where if Maine can work hard for 60 they will get a W. But will they abandon what’s working for their own flashy and over-stickhandling show off ways?

For as much crap as Boija has gotten, Russell's regression from a 95th+ percentile player in college hockey last year to kind of average has been a big killer for this team.
