UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Boija earned the right to try to figure things out. He hasn’t been able to figure it out. Time to see what Rousseau can do with a few starts. I thought Coughlin also had a bad game even with limited ice time. Maine dominated faceoffs, had 10 more shots on net and still got blown out. Embarrassing.

This version of Albin we are going nowhere.

I think Rousseau should get into the rotation. Boija is clearly fighting it and it seems to be some fundamental skating issues and then slow to react to routine shots. It’s strange, and very different than how solid fundamentally he was last season. I thought 3 of the goals he gave up were soft.

The BC defensemen were impressive. Very nasty in front of their own net. Blocking a lot of shots. Just chipping pucks out. Keeping pucks out on the perimeter. I think BC looked like #10 and Maine looked like #15.

I echo getting Nobes and Motew back in. We have too many offensive minded defensemen that have no sense of how to defense their own net front. Just stabbing at pucks and not playing the body. Or in Djuresevich’s case just stabbing at pucks, not playing the body, then high sticking a guy to take a penalty after you’ve been embarrassed.

I think Djuresevic needs a game off. I think Boija needs a game off. Never would have thought I’d say that after how well they both played last season. But it isn’t fair to the guys on the bubble that these two get to stink up the joint while guys wanting playing time sit out. I say let others play and see if those two play well enough in practice to EARN their time in the line up. Nobody should be entitled to playing time. You should have to compete and earn it.
