The CBS College Sports announcers have me wondering.....
How long has Alfond Arena been called the "Little Fenway Park"?
How long has the ME/UNH rivalry been referred to as the "Border Wars"

A Maine fan will have to answer your first question, but I think you'll find the term "Border War" is used for any rivalry between teams in states that border each other.
and the "Border War" certainly didn't exist in the early 90's...

Really?
Show up in Orono, Maine, Friday night when New Hampshire visits Maine. Sellout? No question. The building will be packed by the start of warmups for what has been nicknamed “The Border War.” Described by coach Tim Whitehead as “our little Fenway Park,” Alfond Arena is an impossible ticket most weekends with students waiting at times overnight the night before camped out in the parking lot to get tickets. The same happens at Miami and North Dakota. No football stadium needed for these programs to demonstrate the sports potential.
It's the only reason people call them our rivals.
Of note: I sent a bunch of pizzas to the cold fans in line. Hopefully it warmed/filled them up rather than making them feel bloated and greasy. Radio doesn't do them justice, do they seem into it?
I think it came from the pregame segment. Eric Frede was saying "They call it the border war."
I think he meant "My producer said to call it the border war"
They're into it. The game's been kinda lackluster so far, but the fans seem lively. Looks like a sellout crowd.
