UConn to apply to Hockey East

Re: UConn to apply to Hockey East

I don't think it has anything to do with UConn being the school who asked (or UConn's consulting firm being the firm who asked). I think it is entirely a function of not wanting the information to become public.
+1

Re: UConn to apply to Hockey East

Have to agree with you guys here had nothing to do with who asked. To some degree it was determined by who could say yes or no, ie state schools had a much harder time denying access to the data.

Re: UConn to apply to Hockey East

After reading through the whole document, it appears that three Hockey East teams didn't respond to the survey and they had attendance between 4,900 and 6,200 according to other sources (Page 13).

From the NCAA report for 2011 only 4 Hockey East schools averaged over 4,900 fans:
BC 6,292
UNH 5,725
BU 5,027
Maine 4,928

But the rest of the report makes it seem that both UNH and Maine reported info.

Where can I view the report?

In a way those teams actuallymake some sense. They are probably the most successful finacially and I think the report more or less looked at more middle of the road HEA programs, at least in terms of financials. Maine and UNH may just not have responded because they didn't get around to it, and while some information is available from public sources, not all is and they probably knew that nobody would bother with an FOI request for this type of study.

I'd love to see theattachments to this report. Sometimes the best stuff is in attachments, footnotes and so forth.

Point of information: according to the USCHO.COM web site statistics indicate that UMASS had an average attendance in 2011-2012 of the following: Massachusetts 7th in nation, 17 home games, 112,250 total attendance, 6,603 avg. attendance, 8,373 capacity

Yes, but take out the "home game" at Fenway, and UMass' attendance at Mullins drops to about 4600 or so.

Re: UConn to apply to Hockey East

Fox 61 in Hartford has sources saying the UConn move to Hockey East is a done deal.

Perhaps an official announcement coming tomorrow?
Well the Fox station seems to have jumped the gun a bit, Mike McMahon is saying on twitter the report is incorrect.

@MikeMcMahonET
Multiple people have told me tonight that the FoxCT report is wrong. UConn has not been accepted into HE yet.

@MikeMcMahonET
My guess is it will still be a few weeks away. It's very early into the process. A lot of things have to happen to "officially" be accepted into the league. Now my opinion is that when the dust settles, HE's 12th team will be UConn, but nothing "official" is coming

I put in my two cents to UML's athletic director last week and it didn't sound like it was anywhere near that far along.

8 Merrimack 82.0%
9 Northeastern 52.0%
10 Providence 61.9%

Interesting. If UConn's application does not get accepted, we'll know whom to blame.
