UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Hiring Raycroft was the biggest offseason move Cav made last year. Robbie Nichols was the MVP, and needs to be again for them to be successful, and Andrew Raycroft was a major reason for his success. A subtle offseason hire that paid dividends.
Understatement of the year here Hawkstar! Hopefully Raycroft gets "volunteer Asst" tag lifted soon and gets a full time gig.

Tage Thompson is going to make an impact on the UCONN ice hockey program by the time he is done playing there:

T minus 13 days before practice begins. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the captains skates. With the goaltending and grit this team displayed last year, combined with the addition of these freshman, it's hard not to get excited for this season. Anyone who claims to have expected UConn to be getting NHL draft picks and USNDTP kids two years into Coach Cav's tenure are fooling themselves. With who they added and where they finished last year, I would not be surprised with a pre-season 7 or 8 ranking in the coaches poll.

Where the heck was the Fan Fest last night at the Rent?? Thought it would be under the scoreboard, but Long Trail was doing business there. Not that I minded Long Trail being there ....

Not exactly an artistically pleasing game last night, and the Huskies of recent past kept making an appearance. But a win is a win is a win. Just what they needed before the Army game.

Dick it was on the opposite end..between gates B&C. My wife went over there to pick up the season ticket holder gifts and ended up talking to Cav and Warde manuel. She said Cav was very engaging and when she told him we sat directly behind the bench..he pointed to his head and apologized for the glare. From what she told me there was a lot of interest in getting autographs from the kids. I'll definitely take last nights win, the coaching staff showed they could make half time adjustments...you could definitely see the difference in strength and conditioning in the 2nd half. It has to start somewhere...and last night was as good a point to start as any.

Those two quarterback sneaks, and the fourth and inches denied by the D late in the game in the UConn end that set up the last winning drive, were indicators that Balis is doing his job. Great surge by the OL and the DL. Technique seems to be coming along too although still a bit spotty. If they could just prevent last year's team from showing up at critical junctures they might have a chance at 6 wins.

Btw, I got my season tix order in in the Spring, but never got any info on any season tix gifts. Did you?

It was a HUGE first step to take winning that game last night. I think 4-5 wins is achievable ...
I would give the ticket office a call. My wife got me the tickets the first season at Rentschler when we were going out so they are in her name...we go every week so she takes care of them as soon as we get the renewal. It's the same with hockey now. Where do you sit? I'm 242 row 5.

Was talking about hockey season tix where we are in section 124, row S, 6&7. Bottom of the short aisle in the corner, right on the aisle. Where the Whalers brass used to sit.

Gave up our season tix in football last year. They were at the very top of section 200 up against the press box on the 50. Great seats and when I bought the hockey tix I was told we could have them back. But I am doing a bit of traveling and running for office so I decided against it. The other night we were also in section 200 row 13 also on the 50. Forgot my binoculars though. They are essential for judging line play.

Loved the F-15C's flyover especially when they lit the AB's. I worked in the same department as the guys who designed the afterburners so it was a moment of pride.

Dick what do you think about the way this team closes the season schedule wise...someone brought it up on the Boneyard on the Hockey forum (I don't know if you are on there...but if you aren't please join..there aren't a lot of us there but we do enough to have our own forum) that this team closes the season with conecutive series against PC, Northeastern and UNH. That will tell us right there whether the freshman hit the proverbial wall or whether they have achieved a nice learning curve of the course of the season. I'm excited about this team...IMHO the 2 late additions to the Freshmen along with Thompson may well add the talent to provide he scoring boost this team was lacking last year. I'm also excited to see Ronan this season...see how what has done strength training wise. There is something about that kid I like...he was my favorite player on that team last season.

As far as I know the season ticket gifts were for football tickets only. They were giving them away near the fan fest where the kids form the hockey team were signing autographs. that's where my wife ran into Cav.

Better to play those games late in the schedule. Can't wait to see if "the **** is about to get real" at that juncture ... to quote a very crude expression.

Your point about Ronan is dead on. I, too, really like the kid, as he's fun to watch fly around and create opportunities. Plays with passion and fire, but not a dink and rarely gets into it after the whistle. He just can't finish. However, with this new roster, he can win pucks for guys that can. His play creates positive energy for the team, no doubt.

he looked like he was almost there last year finishing up a bunch of chances. I think a year under his belt will make a HUGE difference.

Nichols getting snubbed as a goalie to watch. IMO, he was as good as there was in Hockeyeast last year.
