UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

I get the feeling people following UConn Hockey on this board only post when they have negative things to say.
Personally, I post when I have something to say. During the season, that usually means actually getting to games, which I have been unable to do so far this year. It happens.

To the folks asking about the tournament, it is at the XL Center. Lots written about that both here and in the Courant already.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

So... where are the tickets available?
UConn box office or XL Center I would imagine. This is not the sort of tournament you are going to have to get tix in advance for. Just belly up to the window a few minutes before game time and get your pick of the XL Center seats. Personally I like the corner seats at the bottom of the aisles that go only half way down.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Have to think AIC had a really down night. Sometimes big scores can happen when a team gets behind and starts to take risks to get back in it. But the SOG's tend to suggest this was an old fashioned whuppin'.

Next weekend will be interesting. Canisius has three league losses, but with a couple of good wins is reputed to be very strong on a good night.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Great test on the road for the Huskies this weekend. Valuable league points at sake. What's promising is UConn has consistently demonstrated a very high compete level all season. As a fan and supporter, that's all one can ask. No team is going to win every game, but we all should expect a full 60 minutes of hard work, and this team has brought that this season. Let's hope their play and effort continue to lead to league wins. Fired up for a big weekend......Go Huskies!

Gotta make 'em pay when you outplay a team and make them cough up penalties. Frustrating, but it happens.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Solid W tonight. Another important 2 points in what appears to be a tight AHA race so far. As we all know the real race begins after X-mas, but the more league points UConn can put up before the final stretch, the better. A sweep this weekend will feel great going into the break!

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Third place at the break with a game in hand on second. Not too bad for a new coach. The players appear to have bought in 100%. Of course, all of us said all along that this was no sixth place team and that the bar has been set much higher than that.

Very nice place to be. Great to take a pair from the Purple Eagles. Last week was a little disappointing because it sounded like they outplayed Canisius, at least Saturday, but it happens and we'll win one where we get outplayed sometime, too. Looking forward to the Tourney this year. A UConn-Quinipiac Final would be lots of fun. But either way, can't afford a letdown to an improved Sacred Heart team.

Coach Cav on Channel 30 this evening saying that going forward he would like all four CT teams in the holiday tournament. Personally, I enjoy seeing outside teams more. But it is what it is. Think that next year's field is already set although I can't remember who they are.

There's been a big push for a Nutmeg Classic with UConn, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, and Yale. From what I understand, Yale is the hold-up due to their limited OoC availability. Personally, I'm not a huge proponent because I think those 2 games are better served playing a variety of other teams around D-I.

Yup, me too. From a UConn perspective, I really like it when a western team comes in, for instance. For the two ECAC teams it isn't attractive since the possibility of playing an opponent a third time is very real.

Of course, my alma mater played SLU three times and beat them three times last year. Clarkson didn't have a really great year, but it was regarded as a success by the fans because they took down their arch-rival three times:):) Unfortunately that didn't count for much for QU who did the same. It was that fourth meeting that got them .... :(

Thanks for reminding me... :(

you would have to have Yale and Q in it for a western team to even think about coming i would think, but then again, The Three Rivers Classic got BC to go when the others involved are Robert Morris, Bowling Green and Penn St

I agree for all sides... State pride is cute but the other two programs (UConn, SHU) aren't mature enough yet.

UConn is ready. Not sure about SHU. The thing about SHU, though, is that at the most unexpected moment they rise up and smite the mighty. Same goes for AIC who beat Quinnipiac last year.

UCONN and SHU still have a lot of improving to do. Quinnipiac and Yale reign supreme in Connecticut and are real contenders for the national championship again this year.

UCONN will improve once in Hockey East but that does not mean much. QU has been undefeated against HE in every game for the last two years. Yale also has a winning record against HE in the last two years while beating the best of HE in last year's NCAA Tournament. (ECAC Hockey League Teams went undefeated in last year's tourney against all other conferences while only losing to other ECAC teams).

The excitement, fan support, and level of competition of QU and Yale hockey is on a whole other level than UCONN and SHU.
