UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Looks like the schedule is out. How do we feel about Sacred Heart as one of the seven NC games? And the Holiday Tournament at the XL Center?
Heck, our Alma Mater has scheduled SHU. If you're trying to build confidence / winning you don't schedule BC as an NC game.

But playing them four times in one season???

Coach Cav and crew going to work. USHR reporting that Belmont Hill forward Will Golonka committed to UConn. Smart, skilled forward described as "BC type". I think the author should change that description to "Cav type".

I think that may have been a scheduling error that everyone has just decided to live with. though if you saw the latest version of the schedule posted on Will's site, the November SHU game has been replaced by Army. Of course the Providence game is not listed, and there is a TBD game listed so I suspect we'll need to see the final "official" schedule before we know for certain what's going on. As for playing the Holdiay Tournament in Hartford, I'm not surprised. I think its being done for two reasons. first to try and build a bit of a base there. Second as something of a dry run for next year when they'll be playing most if not all the Hockey East games at the XL. As I see it, it will be easier to get to, but I will miss getting back to the campus one more time.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

UCONN finally released the official schedule and it is 4 games with Sacred Heart including the Tournament, which is listed as TBA on location but which the Hartford Courant reports will take place at the XL Center in Hartford. I don't love that 11 of the last 15 games are on the road including 3 straight to end the season. That makes it tough when you're trying to compete for a high playoff spot, I think.

Official schedule is here http://www.uconnhuskies.com/sports/m-hockey/sched/conn-m-hockey-sched.html

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Jim, have you gotten a Friends letter, a request for Men's Ice Hockey support, or a men's hockey season ticket form yet? I have not done the season ticket thing in recent years because of my travel schedule, but still it seems odd.

I've gotten none of those and think it is a bit strange.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Dick,
Nada. I assume that maybe they are waiting until after the football season ticket blitz.

For the tickets, maybe. But I never got a Friends solicitation either. Weird, but I am sure they are concentrating on recruiting, getting housing squared away, and the kids in schools. Nonetheless, the Athletic Department should be doing most of this kind of work.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

The same day that USA Hockey unveiled its jerseys for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the University of Connecticut did the same.

The link you provided in your article has a release date of April 18th. There has been discussion on the new jerseys previously. With a chance to do something great, Uconn really spit the bit on this one, new logo included.

Was only a matter of time since the new deal standardized UCONN on the front of all jerseys, and in the case of hockey, sweaters. Sux, especially if they copy the football helmet design for hockey.

Seriously the football helmet is so bad it's hard not to point and laugh at it. I was going to mention it in the other post but didn't want to get off topic. The person that approved of that design should get a serious beating.

As much as I like to laugh at Uconn, I really hope they have normal hockey helmets.

I have been very critical of the new logo and the only saving grace of the new football helmet (which drove the new logo if you can believe it) is that it makes Maryland's no longer the worst helmet in football. I fear they will copy it for hockey. As for the new hockey uniform, the one word I have is boring. I thought the last one was classic and I liked it, especially the blue, but this one is about as bland as it could be. Lettering is too small as well. I keep hoping Warde Manuel gets offered a new job someplace. While he does get credit for the Hockey East upgrade, he has othersise been a disaster. this is Exhibit B.

Logo has a Cujo quality to it

Nick, it is all about money, you and I both know that. And Nike gave them a boatload. Agreed that helmet sux.

All will be forgiven if Manuel elevates TJ Weist to HC after HCPP goes 6-6 this year though. We'll get a clue tomorrow night if the Huskies are gonna have what it takes at the Rent. Towson will be no walkover.

And the votes are in. Looks like another 5-7 season, maybe even 4-8. Just when you thought it could not get any worse ....

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Tuts, what did you think of the new helmet in game action? Not trying to pile on but I actually thought it was worse than I even expected; the stripe of the pic of the husky down the center is slimmer than it should be.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Just thought it a little weird. Much prefer the old block C. Were you there or did you watch ESPN3?

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Caught bits of it on ESPN3 via WatchESPN app on my tablet. That app is seriously great, it's great when I have one game going on the tv and want to watch another. Worked great for the tourney in March too!

Shakim had a nice night. Was happy for Sterlin Phifer, met him when he was at BC and he was a very likeable kid.

Basically you guys are where we were with Spaz. While coaching hires are absolutely crazy critical at the college level, you still never know what you're going to get with them. Except PP. I knew the day you hired him it was a bad day for Uconn. As you can see, the 4th Spaz year did damage that will take quite a rebuild. PP must be canned by season's end or you will see a worse mess (conference affiliation being a serious concurrent problem that BC didn't have).
