UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Congratulations on sweeping Northern they are a quality team which makes it even more impressive.

Next year is a H&H year. I really want to start doing fan meetups on Saturdays at lunch for our home series.

Isn't that 2 WCHA sweeps in a row at home?
The fans will begin expecting that every weekend:D
Not a bad precedent.

It is! It's five wins in seven WCHA home contests after no home wins against any Division I teams since January 2011. It's nice!

I don't think that anyone expects 2005-06 (11-1 at home) anytime soon, but that is something to aspire to. That team split its first series and then won every one through the rest of the year. That was Scott Munroe, Jeremy Schreiber, and Bruce Mulherin's senior season.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Things I expect from this weekend:

1. Carmine will sit both nights.

2. Larose will either get both starts, or they'll get one for Uhelski. I guess there's an open question as to whether playing U-18 burns his NCAA eligibility for a redshirt.

3. Siersma and Block will get some ice time, which will be good for the young guys to go out there and play against some of the best American kids out there.

4. Reinhardt should be back on the ice, but I'd only expect him in there for one game.

5. Soquila and White will see ice in at least one game. They need to stay in game shape in case there are injuries.

UAH is really screwing this one up by not doing a jersey sale off of it. A red-white-and-blue UAH jersey? Come on.

I could see Carmine at least getting one start. There will be several scouts in the building, likely the most you'll see all season. With a bye week coming after Tech. I could see him getting a start. Mike was unsure which direction he would take, but knows it would be a good opportunity for Carmine.

Yes -- I can't imagine scouts not getting a chance to see our best player. Maybe not a full game, but something.

Meh, I'm not a fan of American-flagification of sports uniforms. I just want our REGULAR jerseys first.

Next season, though, since you like red: 20th anniversary of 1996 championship honored and the team wears throwbacks that series.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I have us pegged for somewhere between four and eight wins, Red Cows. The BSU series was really frustrating, because it was hard to watch the team drop a stinker at home after being very competitive the previous weekend, even though BG is several cuts above where CC is right now. Other than the inability to score goals —*and doing that against the Mavs is hard — I was pretty happy with our performance against Mankato this past weekend. I honestly thought that we were going to see two results where we lost by 3+ goals with the game never really in doubt.

I remembered posing this question, today, when looking at the WCHA standings.

Modified your stance here, any, since you've "already" made it to 7-16-3?

I see "winnable" games on your remaining schedule, IMHO. You guys have a goalie that is probably going to win you a couple more all by himself (sorta).

We have exceeded my expectations! I think that we can, at a minimum, split our remaining home games, which gets us to nine wins overall and eight in league play. Also, a roadie at Lake State should be, at minimum, a sweep, despite how hot Defiel is playing right now. Did he shut UAH out? Yes, but he did so in a game with two major penalties assessed to one UAH player, and at the time, said player was centering the Chargers' highest volume shooter. The Chargers fairly well crushed the Lakers the next night. I desire a sweep but expect a split, and I think that 18 league points gets us into the playoffs. (I'll know more today when I do the analysis on wchaplayoffs.com.)

I don't see us winning at Tech or BG save a lights-out Carmine performance and timely goals in tandem, which is probably more likely over Phillips (who is off of the peak he had early) than the BG trio. Also, UAH had greater success against Tech (where the games were two-goal affairs that the Huskies controlled but did not dominate) than BG (which was admittedly early in the season while this team was identifying itself, as I'm fairly sure that this evolution of the UAH squad beats CC).

I was thinking about your question, too, Red Cows. I'm also still mad that we only took a point off of the Mavs.

Book BSU for that series and have them wear their throwback green "Beavers" script jerseys, that would be a fun weekend! I know there was a non-conference series back in the CHA days against Lake Superior State where BSU and LSSU wore throwbacks from the old NAIA days.

Man, it is almost 20 years since my first trip to Huntsville? Where has the time gone?

Careful on expecting too much against Lake State. We swept them easily in November, and frankly, they didn't even look like a D1 team. But when they played us in Kato Jan 9-10, they were a very competent defensive team with a good goaltender, and at least a couple of playmakers. Are they on the verge of the Broadmoor? No, but this is not the pre-Christmas team, either. You guys can definitely play with them, but I wouldn't be surprised by a sweep either way in that one.

I agree. I was hoping for a BSU sweep last weekend, which would have put the Beavers into fourth when all was said and done. But Lake State ended up getting the sweep.

And, don't forget, BSU swept you guys out the door just a couple of weeks ago! :D

I. LOVE. THIS. IDEA. Then do it again in Bemidji in 2017 for the 20th anniversary of that BSU title. I would think you guys consider that one special since it was at the Glas and revengeful and whatnot. (By the way, that was my first and so far only trip to Bemidji. No kidding -- where HAS the time gone?)

So do I. I always thought that having the script Alabama with Huntsville on the trailing banner was goofy, because ... well, we know who we are, right?

Geof, during the Christmas break Gordie went home and was fitted with new contacts and ever since he has not been the same goalie. I'm not saying that Huntsville can't sweep the Lakers but I would be awful surprised if the Lakers do not get the sweep themselves.

I have some glasses that he can borrow for the games ... ;)
