UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I really hope the WCHA notices and never schedules us at home on Thanksgiving/Iron Bowl weekend ever ever ever again.

Not many want to play at home Thanksgiving weekend. Students are gone. It's deer season in many of those areas, especially for the 4 Michigan schools. You're going to have it at least half the time.

Yep. No Reinhardt either, both with injuries. Everyone else is in Fairbanks. I think they're gonna give McHugh a parachute on the way home.

Tonight was a step back. I am guessing that Guerriero is either banged up or fatigued a bit. Given that the boys do play next weekend, albeit Sat-Sun, he may have needed a break.

The boys have a little downtime this week before regrouping in Omaha per my conversation with a player. They're really going to need that off weekend right after Christmas to heal up and, well, enjoy family time and all that.

I'm guessing it was a tough decision, considering Carmine had faced 46 shots on Friday and was likely to face a ton more on Saturday (the Nanooks ultimately got 41).

The unfairness of hockey stats: Despite a "meh" save percentage of .882, that was Davis Jones's third shutout of the season. Carmine has a save percentage of .934 -- now 10th in the nation -- yet he has no shutouts and we're nearing five full seasons without one of our own. This irrationally bothers me. :o

I think that you have to consider giving Matt a start, too, from a sharpness perspective. He played two Saturdays ago, and if he didn't play last night, it would be at least three weeks between starts, more if you let Carmine go both weekends and take the weekend. The only consideration that I would've had is that, well, "It's a league game, Smokey."

That said, I expect that we'll see it between 2:1 and 3:1 for their starts the rest of the year.

I've been trying to think of how to show how hard it is to have his SV% with that many shots/GM. I guess that I could just do and XY scatter plot of all the goalies with 33% of their team's minutes. That wouldn't take very long to input.

I hope that Let's Play Hockey is talking out of their butts again.

LPH argued that UAT may follow ASU. I laugh, and I stand behind Michael's point. I have more thoughts and may share them on Friday. (I'm in Tennessee helping my folks move, but email me if you need me.)

I highly doubt there's enough interest for UAT hockey, but after the ASU decision, nothing would surprise me.

There's good ice in Phoenix. There's not good ice in Tuscaloosa. The biggest hurdle for all of the SECHC schools is having a place to play on or very near campus. I'm not sure who is closest to their home rink — probably Georgia. Hell, Mississippi State has played home games in Decatur, AL. Given the Title IX implications and the need for serious rinks and then the push to get kids from northern climes to come South for hockey, it's a tough sell.

Tuscaloosa has no permanent ice at all from what I can tell. UAT would have to build a facility from scratch or somehow put a sheet in Coleman Coliseum.
