UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Jack Hittinger picked us to pick off a game in Big Rapids this weekend. I wish that I could go into the time machine and read that from the future.

Jack's going with the "Either I end up looking like a genius, or by next week it will all be forgotten" theory. Well played, Jack.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

And they won the Sunday game, which says to me that they got the series sweep for the first roadie. ;) [Thanks for correcting me on the record.] I know why they pulled the kids home, but ... well, I guess they would have stayed if they weren't going back later that month. Oh, latter-day CHA scheduling...

Oh, and since we mentioned the Bishop shooting: thanks again to Ferris for doing a moment of silence the next year on the anniversary.

Sundat after you mentioned Bishop, "Snapped" had an episode devoted to that incident.

Congrats, guys.

You know, I want you guys to do well, but I didn't want you to go and do that.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I'm not even sorry, Hammer.

Well, then. Brears finally got unleashed tonight. Three goals on Motte is nothing to sneeze at, as that's only happened twice this year; for the Chargers to be doing it, well ...

Too many penalties. I'd love to see what these boys can do against guys 5x5. You lose Jack Prince anytime you're killing penalties, and that limits the chances for that Prince-Brennan Saulnier-Josh Kestner combination to do their magic. It's amazing that Prince leads the team in SOG considering that his ice time is limited.

That was a great, consistent effort through most of the game (it wasn't great in the early third). If you had told me that UAH would win in Big Rapids, well, I'd have laughed my *** off.

Geof my friend enjoy the playoffs.

It's way too early to think like that. Do we have momentum going? Yeah, we do. But you well know that early-season momentum doesn't always equal a playoff trip. Sure, I know that you're coming at it from the look that your Lakers are struggling such that it's unlikely that they'll leapfrog UAH, but this is still a team that's only won five games in the last two seasons.

Darn right too many penalties. I am glad to see the penalty kill doing well though (now 21 of 23 in the last three games). Season now at 84 percent, well above last season's ugly 70.5 percent. I don't have the feeling of the impending doom when UAH goes on the PK last year. Yeah, it's more of the effect on the offense that's irksome.

We're second in the country in combined special teams! I really don't know what to make of that.

I wonder if Carmine starts again tonight. He's now 10th in the country in save percentage at .939, which is 4th in the WCHA behind Dahlstrom, Phillips, and Motte. The league looks deep in goaltending this year.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Wow! Ferris is a HARD team to beat, especially in their own barn. Congrats on a huge win and amazing goaltending. That said.....UAH won't sneak up on the Huskies this weekend.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Yeah, sadly we don't have Leitner, Lafontaine, Gervais, Blueger, et al to run at them. I will, though, put Guerriero up against Williams when Carmine is on it.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Kurt Gosselin is leading BCHL defensemen in scoring with a 9/22/31 slash line in 21 gp. He just won BCHL Player of the Week this past week for his efforts. Pretty **** impressive. He's on an above-average Alberni Valley team, but it is quite a feat nonetheless.

Anyway, hope the Von Braun is rocking tonight when we take on Tech!

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

F.y.i., Cam is taking his second shut-out of the month against the Flyers into the third period on NBC.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I'm back from West Tenn. See everyone at the rink! I'll be in a Bruins hoodie for you Tech fans looking for me — probably sitting in 224 above where the Huskies will skate out. Big guy, beard, glasses.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

As Cam was leaving the ice after his second shut-out against the Flyers in 10 Days (31+26 saves), UAH got a good recruiting plug with the comment "out of The University of Alabama in Huntsville".

Cool! I wonder if anyone has mentioned that UAH's last shutout came from Cam Talbot on 3/12/2010 (1-0 CHA semifinal win over Robert Morris). That's right: Since UAH's last shutout, Talbot has had five NHL shutouts.

I have a feeling that drought will end this season like our home winless streak. At least I hope so.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I honestly never heard of UAH before Jack Prince committed there and of the ~15 games I've watched of UAH the last 2 years, they've usually been slapped around quite a bit.

They're obviously still losing a lot but not as often and the scores are respectable on a regular basis.

Am I right to be extremely impressed/surprised by UAH this season?
