UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

What's the skinny about the UAH hockey bus? It was mentioned during one of the Lake Superior State games by the radio crew. Then I saw another reference to it in the CollegeHockeyNews Saunders write-up.

"Chargers road up, down and across the United States in a modified bus – really, it was more like a box truck – that allowed Saunders and his teammates to set up beds for the seemingly never-ending travel."

I guess I naively thought that when it was said that the Chargers were busing up to ... wherever (everywhere!!) that they were actually in a bus. What is this contraption that the Chargers use? Is is some sort of homebrew or is this RoadWarrior ride stock from somewhere? And pictures, where can I see pictures of this rolling hockey long distance transport? And finally, where does this interstate puck carrying vehicle reside when the big wheels aren't turning?

It's something that they rent. The style is called a sleeper bus. You'll see some representative pictures on the Web. The one UAH uses has two bunk levels of sleeping. I can't remember whether it's one lounge or two. It does beat the days of using a standard coach bus and sleeping sitting up for sure.

You see photos every so often on players' Instagram accounts. John is jgriggs31 and Sebastian is geoffrion24.

Thank you for the information on the sleeper bus. Some images I found of similar ideas look kind of ungainly from an artistic perspective but very functional. Do the few teams that come to Huntsville use similar sleeper buses?

Now on to the Mariucci Classic. What do the television/radio coverage options look like for these games? The teams represented certain cover the Krach ratings top to bottom. The Chargers-Falcons matchup may be very enjoyable.

So far all I've been able to find is audio from Boston College and Air Force, but no online video. The only television of the Classic is the two games involving Minnesota.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Bump because the big day is coming and I plan to email the AD and President of LSSU to let them know the importance of admitting UAH into the nWCHA .

I hope others will do the same to their University powers.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

I sure hope something works out for UAH.

I had a feeling D3 power Adrian would give them serious problems, but then to go and play Vanderbilt the next night isn't going to get them any better.

I know their schedule was patched together for this season in the 11th hour after the program was saved, but this program really needs to find a conference or fold. Those guys deserve better than to be playing club teams that many high school programs (let alone Junior programs) would have little trouble defeating.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

I don't think our on-ice performance will have much to do with what the presidents decide. Their hockey people will be telling them just how hard it is to recruit against zero postseason.

For our OU games:

7:30p at the Iceplex on Friday: free admission, first-come, first-served. Y'all know it won't hold a lot of people.
3:00p at the VBC on Saturday: again, free, FCFS. There probably won't be a big crowd, but your season tickets don't reserve your spot for this game.

What's the status of the program pending the NCAA committee meeting next week?

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

We're just waiting and polishing the WCHA presentation.

Are you guys going into this with expectations or is this a wing and a prayer? Do you have an alternate plan or is it WCHA or nothing? I'm mostly just curious. In any case I hope it works out.

Our AD and president have been lobbying their counterparts across the league for months now (plus WCHA reps visited in October), so there's expectations.

There is no alternate plan (that I know of). Atlantic Hockey, the only other option, doesn't want us. It's the WCHA or bust.

Best of luck, then. I really hope this works. Though I'm not sure Atlantic wouldn't want you especially given the current makeup. And I would say AHA hockey has really come a long way since the old MAAC days. But good luck with the WCHA. Probably a very good fit there.

I think it boils down to the AHA being a cost-containment league that already deals with regular trips to Air Force. We wouldn't mitigate travel in the AHA like we could in the WCHA.
