My biggest problem with everything that's happened so far is how disconnected the Athletic Director seems to be from all of it. The last two major developments in UAH hockey did not see E.J. Brophy out in front of the situation answering for it. When Portera killed the program, it was done with a press release from University PR. No one was made available for comments, folks basically hid in their offices hoping it would all just "go away."If you think that this was EJ Brophy's call, you have another think coming.

And now, two weeks before the season starts, the coach gets canned an a new "name" guy is being brought in, and where is Brophy in all of this? Where is the press conference and the "meet the coach" opportunity? If this was a "fire in disgrace" situation, one would understand an assistant filling in on an interim basis, but that does not at all appear to be the case.
I do have one question for you, you said Lu's succes on the ice wasn't materializing, well excuse me since 2008 who has had success on the ice, "NOBODY" so give Lu a chance, at least 4 years. But oh well what do I know. All I'm saying is no one has had a winning season at UAH in a long while!!!!!!!
My only question to that. is why hire someone when you know they are only going to stay a year or two. It is terrible for the players to have to change coaches, philosophies and styles every other year, not to mention what kind of effect that has on recruiting. Somehow I don't think a lot of you care much about the players. At least it doesn't look that way to me!

If University PR is involved again, then the President's office is involved, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Having studied/worked in a system where the President couldn't seem to care less about athletics (Franz), and now working in a system where the President is heavily invested in the athletics department, I can see the value in the President having a say in it. It certainly points to a dedication to the program.
Then I thought I might get all worked up about the timing again, but in all honesty, there's no reason to do that. 2012-13 is a lost season in UAH hockey. If you're going to fire the coach in a turnaround effort, I see no tangible downside to doing it now versus doing it back in May (assuming the new guy is coming in with his assistants in tow, or plans to maintain the current staff). So I'll take it as the step forward that it is, or could be, and be positive.
Let's go Chargers.
The WCHA will be here the week of the Mankato games, and they will be at the Friday night game. Drag everyone you know to the VBC.

Are you sure there's "no mention." It looks like it on both of those links you provided. Even activity after the hockey game, according to those.http://campaign.r20.constantcontact...WoOZFc9y_YMiIWyloFeq6fYU9mjO1HyGeD8kcx-2Ifw==

UAH homecoming organizers apparently want everyone to be on campus for events there instead. There's no mention of the game in either the alumni newsletter or the official list of homecoming events.Alumni Association members can get free tickets to Saturday's game however.

Good point! Get 'em out and fill 'er up!!! Students, alumni, make it work! The hockey game they mention is the Saturday game; however, the WCHA will be at the Friday night game.
That's exactly the problem. Was the omission accidental or intentional? I still "fume" over Franz and Harris diverting the well-established tradition of crowning the homecoming queen and king (and associated ceremony) from hockey to basketball in order to improve basketball attendance. It appears that Brophy's emphasis on making basketball "midnight madness" a major event (along with associated on-campus festivities) has overshadowed the need to generate attendance at the Friday game. The hockey game they mention is the Saturday game; however, the WCHA will be at the Friday night game.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall the various offices at UAH being good at promoting much of anything while I was there. News, events, athletics, whatever. Maybe they're just bad about putting stuff in the buildings I was in regularly. The few times I did find out about stuff I wanted to do or see, they were also poorly planned and executed, often leaving those of us who wanted to go out in the cold. The Fluffy Stand-Up event comes to mind, as do the failures to promote UAH Hockey at all. Even our currently successful Basketball and Softball teams seldom got mentioned in any kind of timely manner, not that the Alumni folks are good about sending me e-mails either. Basically the onus is on the students to find out what they want to do. UAH does a very poor job compared to many other colleges I am familiar with.
I get better UAH hockey news here than I do on our own website, alumni e-mails, or various blueline club e-mails. (Not to dig at you Geof, but we're feeling a bit left out here and we'd like to be more participatory even though we're a couple hours away. We've not been sent any BLC forms this year, though we got the "buy season tickets" mailer. We are talking about trying to make it down the 12th, and if I can swing it I'll drag a friend or three along for the ride. I can't promise anything though.)
Really? Are you not on Facebook or Twitter? I'm not in charge of the BLC forms (we're figuring out how the Charger Club and the BLC will work together, and believe you me I'm going to advocate for respect for the BLC's traditions), and I'm sorry that you didn't get one. Did you not get Coach Luongo's email with a link to the PDF? I am doing everything that I can between trying to find a job and graduate school.
2. goal allowed even if defense has dislodged net a small amount
Small amount is dislodged but still on the pegs.Is there a definition of "small" amount? Seems to be a lot left to the referee's discretion.
