UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Only three sets of games after the holidays, hope they can fill in some exhibitions. And with so few home games, hope the fans come out and keep some of the momentum going

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Any news on that front?

Coach Luongo said in an email to supporters last week that a WCHA committee will be visiting Huntsville this fall, with details to come. I would think it'd be during the Minnesota State series, but we'll see.

They (the AD & hockey staff) need to confirm that and the make an all out push to pack the place that weekend. Coordinate with the various student groups/frats/etc. and get them to the game. Run busses if need be. Could be the deciding factor.

The good news is that both Alabama (vs. Missouri) & Auburn (vs. Ole Miss) football teams are on the road that weekend, so there no excuse that people are at those home games. The game times are still TBA, so hopefully they won't be saturday evening prime time games- if they are need to consider some type of watch party type affair at the arena since there plenty of space for it with new lobby, etc.

I need to speak to a couple business guys about a ticket giveaway. I think that our captains can stress the importance to student life. I'll try to confirm that it's that weekend.

Suppose there's no update about UAH and AHA?

Haven't heard any. It had been very quiet on all fronts up until hearing about the WCHA's site visit. I'd be interested to know if there have been any recent talks with AHA, too.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Discussions with the WCHA are farther along because their opening has been known for longer. The WCHA is also a better fit.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

WCHA appears to be the only conference beginning 2013-2014 for UAH once the travel issue is worked out. Bus travel takes two days or two drivers from the northern reaches of the WCHA to and from UAH. I understand drivers are limited in hours allowed on the road for safety reasons. As for joining the AHA, UAH would limit their scholarships to 12 to meet AHA conference rules. This would be a cost saver for UAH. Connecticut had no scholarships during their tenure with AHA and I heard they are going to 18 scholarships for men and women.

The cost savings in scholarships would be offset in part increased travel costs. The insular AHA schedule would prevent us from getting road guarantee games with bigger schools because of the RPI/PWR effects. I'll take an AHA berth over folding the program, but I'll take the WCHA over AHA.

Huh? I don't get how the AHA schedule is insular, nor do I think that would prevent UAH from getting "road guarantee games". If anything would prevent games it would be travel costs to and from AHA to almost anywhere else.

Are y'all not still playing 28 league games?

27. But there's only one league playing less (the ECAC), and several playing more (WCHA and CCHA).

So while, yes, the schedule is insular, so is everybody else's.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

I really hope this program survives and the WCHA accepts UAH as their tenth team. It will be interesting to see how playing 'Bama will prepare the team before facing Mankato the following weekend.

Not a hater, but I wouldn't be surprised if D3 Adrian takes one (or both) of their games scheduled against UAH this season.

I guess I'm used to the 20-game CHA and the independent world where we play all the games people will schedule! ;)

Not the ideal team to play, but I suppose it's better than having no games going into Mankato series.

Not likely. Not taking anything away from Adrian who did well last year but they lost so much from that team (bulk of whom started with the program as freshman). There were several UAH players who were considering Adrian had the program not been saved who would have made significant impact.
