UAA @ tUMD: October 22nd and 23rd - The Start of WCHA Play

UMD is fresh off a sweep of Providence College and their best game of the year (a 7-1 win on Saturday). UAA is coming off two losses in the Alaska Goal Rush. I haven't heard much to cheer about this year for UAA.

Few questions for UAA fans:

What is the goal-tending situation? I thought I remember hearing that it was anyone's job?

Players to look out for?

Hoping for a UMD sweep but UAA has played UMD tough the last few years..

Re: UAA @ tUMD: October 22nd and 23rd - The Start of WCHA Play

Over the last three years UAA's record versus UMD is 5 wins ... 1 loss ... 2 ties ... (over the last six years it's 10-5-3)

As for UAA's goaltending "issues". That's much ado about nothing. No different than DU's two rookie goaltenders ... (yes I know Murray is a  sophomore )

The key to this series will be how well the Seawolves play in front of whoever is in net and I'd expect you'll see both of them unless whoever plays on Friday night stands on his head and the coach can't help but put him back in.

And oh yeah ... Kevin Reiter > Kenny (not that I expect a young lass like Biddco to know who Kevin is).

Of course I know who Kevin is! Kenny's younger brother! I am not that young :)

UAA is one of those teams that has been a thorn in UMD's side. There are just some teams that seem to have our number. I hope this year will be different.

So what players should I watch for this weekend?

I don't really post here to troll for hits to my blog. But I've got my preview of Dull-uth up. Click the link in my siggie if interested at all (or not as you choose).

Here's some lowlights ...
Duluth doesn't have the Manifest Destiny history of someplace like racially monotone Mankato. There's no stinking nearby 100 year old refugee camp for Native Americans like Buttmidji. There's no Stearn's County Syndrome reputation like St. Cloud. Even their nickname is boring and unimaginative in comparison to the team on the western Minnesota border with the hostile and abusive nickname. Seriously, Duluth isn't even part of the famed "Iron Range". And I mean ... Bulldogs? Yeah, boooooring (and wheeeeezzzzyyyy).

So what's a blogger to do but provide a generic milquetoast preview? There is really just a limited number of Edmund Fitzgerald snarky references available. The least boring thing about Duluth is that it's almost in Wisconsin. So strap yourselves in (not really) as I detail (yawn) the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.

Are you rehashing that joke about Duluth "almost being in Wisconsin" Donald?

I watched UAA play CC last weekend as it was televised in Colorado Springs. UAA is no joke indeed. They have some big boys and play physical. UMD has superior talent no doubt but UAA could certainly shock them. Mitch Bruijsten is a good looking player that stands 6'4"... Nasty!

CC isn't that good is the thing wrong with this post. I'm loving the Bulldogs this weekend. They just have so much offense and J.T Brown the fresh is looking very very good out there so look for him to come up big this weekend along with the usual first line. Only shaky part maybe goalie for the Bulldogs but Reiter can have his games. But also I think UAA will throw their bodies around plenty, its just a question of can they keep up with the speed.

CC isn't very good this year and CC had their freshman goalie between the pipes that night - but I wasn't commenting on CC Tiger Hockey. I am saying that UAA has some big boys that can flat out play. UMD is a great team this year, and I'm an alum, but UAA shouldn't be considered a pushover by any stretch. Especially early in the season when no teams are firing on all cylinders. I think UAA will give them a run on Saturday - Friday night UMD mows them over. Those UMD boys will be out too late on Friday night at Grandmas Sports Garden after their Seawolves bashing to be up for the game on Saturday night. I predict a split.

I'm not saying a push over they have owned us of late and I think the Bulldogs will have to work hard to sweep but I guess my question is how good is UAA's goalie? He will be facing a lot of shots out there.

If its necessary to make fun of a city for it not to be boring I have two words and a link for you about Duluth: Seaway Hotel and this.

That being said, Duluth doesn't need to be on the Iron Range because its at the head of the LARGEST LAKE IN THE WORLD. If you don't enjoy the city you've either never been here or don't enjoy being outside.:p
