Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

__airbanks gets another quality recruit for 2015/16.
The kids Olds Grizzles coach points out that the Carlson has a state of the arts locker room.
We can't get the remodel of the Farg done quick enough.
And what are we going to show a potential recruit when he visits the Sully?
Facilities are a very large part of the recruiting process.

I agree, but I doubt any blue chipper is choosing a school based on how their locker room looks. Come on. Really?

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

For as late as this is they picked up a pretty nice prospect. He's not tall but he's been on the cusp of league awards (twice runner-up for AJHL Goaltender of the Year) and was also one of the invitees to World Jr. A Challenge Canada West camp. A really solid recruit with quality numbers who'll battle for playing time right out of the gate.

I am pleased as well. Shyiak would have been happy to have a mediocre walk on as a third goalie.

Yes I really think facilities play a large part in the decision of what school to attend.
Even more so when we're talking about 17 and 18 year olds.
How many blue chippers have we had visit? And a blue chipper gets to look at North Dakota and then the Farg and Sully?
You're kidding yourself if you think a "locker room" isn't part of the facilities.
We're talking about 2 or 3 (how many schools can a kid visit?) schools competing for the same kid whether he's a blue chipper or might become a 3rd liner.
Yeah facilities play a big role in the recruiting process and the "locker room" is a part of it.
The kid sits down in Matt's office and he's supposed to be impressed? Really?
He sees the 30 year old work out equipment after seeing Minnesota's and that plays no part in his decision?
Yes that "locker room" is a big part of the facilities.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Kamal was a walk on goal tender

Sidor, Mayo and Rosett were, but I had no idea Kamal was a walk on. If I recall, UAA was in a bind when Christianson left, and that's when they went with Kamal. When Gordon got injured it really messed up the goalie recruiting. All I'm saying is that I can't recall many years under Shyiak when we had three goalies who were all capable of being the number one guy.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

One of the very first things Matt did was to spruce up and move things around in the locker room.
Think I'm kidding? Ask him.

I've been told that the hockey team will be working out in the new Alaska Airlines Center. Are the hockey offices going to be there too, or still at the Farg?

I get your point, and when we're talking about North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. it's the big picture. UAA can't compete with those schools facilities wise, but it's more than a locker room. It's the total package. What does UA_ have other than a locker room? The Carlson sucks, Fairbanks sucks and they don't fill their barn any more than we do the Sully.

Guess you'd have to ask that coach and the kid.

3rd goalie for next year

@OTBPuckWatch: 94 G Jared D’Amico (Okotoks) commits to UAA. 5′9 stopper is a 3-year @TheAJHL veteran, Edge school (Calgary) product.

Here is his stats for this year

You even scooped Chris Heisenberg with this news!

All the student athletes will be working out in the new workout areas in the AAC. The former “work out area “was a joke" ,but all the room they had ( 3 handball courts). The Hockey offices will stay at the Wells Fargo but to bigger offices after a remodel as most of all the other team offices will move to their new home.

A college campus with almost 3 times as many dorms as UAA but have 1/2 the students.
A full blown student center
A pub on campus
More recreation areas and things to do on campus.

I am wondering when the new Rec center is built on the UAA campus if the hockey team will have its own work-out area along with the coaching offices. I am still confused if this new Rec Center is supposed to be attached to a new hockey arena on campus though...

You are 2 building's ahead of me. ........ The new AAC has 2 "work out area's" a 1,500 sq ft. and a 3,500 sq ft area. total of 5,000 sq ft

I hope the "old work out area's in the Wells Fsargo are put back to the hand ball courts that they were before.

When the AAC is built, there will be a pub at UAA as well. Even though there is no hockey in the new arena, I still see this as a benefit to UAA as a whole, even to the hockey team if they are working out there in the new state of the art facilities.

A pub on campus (according to Wolfman this is in the works at the AAC)
More recreation areas and things to do on campus.(Because leaving campus is a punishment and they don't want you leaving the city once you've figured that out.)

I think you missed the most important part...
