Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Have never seen a steel mill though, so could have been I suppose.

That very first shot looks like steel to me, plus that hammering sounds like a steel mill.

Edit: it's the US Steel "South Works" in Chicago. The whole site is gone now. 1857-1992. 20,000 jobs.

Noticed this too. Also that early 70's paneling was hard for the set designer to resist I'm sure but by the early 80s every housewife in America had put her foot down and had it ripped out.

ours survived well into the 80s

Stranger Things season 1 was excellent.

Just finished.

It was evocative of both ET and Freaks and Geeks but obviously it's own thing.

Looking forward to season 2.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I have two episodes left, but think it’s the weakest season so far

A, USS Callister
?, Arkangel
B, Crocodile
A, Hang the DJ
A, Metalhead
A, Black Museum

Haven't seen Arkangel yet. Hang the DJ is my favorite episode after San Junipero.

I agree- hang the dj was great. I’d give callister a -, but I really disliked crocodile and ark angel wasn’t so great either

Saw the first of the two new Chappelle standup shows. Hilarious. Looking forward to the more intimate "rougher" show where it sounds like he's still working on some stuff.

X-FILES! I know, I know, some questions will be answered, and then there will be more left unanswered, because Chris Carter likes screwing with his fans. Don't care, still watching it.

Started S3 of The Wire...NOW we're talking. "That was my dawg, man!" :D

Catching up on Dexter finally.

I know it’s not a popular opinion, but season 5 has been great.

This is good to hear. I had heard his MSG shows sucked.

I really, really respect Chappelle and want nothing but good things for him.

I really, really love Chappelle's stand-up too. I grew up in the Napster Era listening to Killing Them Softly on repeat before Chappelle's Show was even a thing.

The new stand-up specials were okay. He's still a master of layering and structuring stories, but he just doesn't have much to say. He's reached a point of fame and wealth that he's so far removed from society that someone telling him he's not funny is a bigger injustice to him than actual injustice. He does close the second one with his Iceberg Slim story, which is good, but I think I first heard it well over five years ago, so it felt more about filling time than anything.
